22.5, ATC, and Burn Time

I have a quick question for anyone with a 22.5" WSM and an ATC. I know that there are a lot of variables to consider, but about how long should I be able to maintain a temp of 250 for with a full ring of charcoal using an ATC?

I've been able to maintain a 22.5 WSM with a full ring of charcoal (with the outer portion of the ring of charcoal stacked up to the water pan) at 250º for 17 hrs. with a Pitmaster IQ 110. I used no water in the pan...foiled only.

I have the Auber and you can get 16 hours easily without a water pan, if you go 225 you can get to 18-19 hours. What are you smoking? If you HH whatever you are smoking you won't need to go that long and you won't need the atc. I usually go low and slow if I'm doing 4-6 butts overnight.

Did a low and slow butt over the holiday. Used a 20lb bag KO: about 30 briquets in the chimney for starter, rest in the ring. Started with vents wide open till hit 220, the closed it up and let the DigiQ run the show at 225. Lasted 18 hours, and still had a little bit left.

BTW, this is with 2 bone-in pork butts on the bottom grate & two 12 lbs. packers on the top. After I removed the long haul meats, I put in 6 racks of spares on the top grate and 16 chicken thighs in a full size foil pan on the bottom. I was testing doing all 4 KCBS comp meat in a single 22.5 WSM. I know some competitors can and have done it in an 18.5 (with less meat overall), but I wanted to try it with a lot of meat. The entire burn time from start to finish was 17 hrs.

Steve knows what's up. I have an 18" WSM with a Stoker ATC and with a very full mounded and packed ring I can get 24 hours at 250 without adding any more charcoal. No water pan, just a foiled clay saucer.
