2022 vs 2024 Weber Genesis SP-E-335

Hey y’all,

I’m in the market for my first Weber grill and had a quick question on the 22 vs 24 design, it seems that the newer models may not be as good as older and was curious what y’all thought. As far as I can tell the 2024 is missing the tank gauge, has a shorter side table, has lower quality doors, and the heat shield on the inside of the hood is reduced. I’ve seen people online saying the metal is thinner and of lower quality too.

I have the opportunity to buy a floor model 22 at the same price as the 2024. I’ve also been considering the SA-E-330 which has no side burner or lights but the indigo blue is pretty nice looking. I can't figure out if I should buy the 2022 floor model SP-E-335 or get the SA-E-330 since the color fits really well with my patio and it has most of what i need (crafted system, griddle, searing) and I don't really see myself using the side burner.

What do y'all think? Do the changes really matter? Will they affect longevity and how the grills cook? Thanks in advance for any help!

The Indigo blue one from ACE comes with Weber's 9mm stainless grates, which are hard to get ahold of on their own. Most of the other 2022 and 2024 Genesis models come with enameled porcelain grates.

I've never actually seen the current generation Genesis 9mm grates even offered for sale; the previous generation Weber 9mm stainless grates for the Genesis II will fit the current generation Genesis, but are an even 50/50 split, which does not match the Weber Crafted system. All the stainless grates available that match the uneven split for the Crafted system that I can find are 7mm.

There may be some third party 9mm stainless grates that are the proper split for the Crafted system, but I have not yet seen any.

I don't know if the longer side table is of particular benefit as the difference is really subtle to me. We have the 2022 E-325 with side burner and longer side table, and I don't know if I've ever even noticed that it's longer than other models other than when I'm specifically looking at it.

If it were me, I would actually lean towards the Indigo if the color fits your patio well despite the perception of cut corners on the 2024 version. I don't think I've ever relied on the hanging tank gauge (they get stuck), and for me the side burner is also a "nice-to-have" as opposed to a "must-have".

I like the Ace Indigo special color. While I agree the doors have been dumbed down and the tank scale eliminated, I tend to doubt they changed the firebox or hood. So, if you like the Indigo, my vote is to go for it!
