So, here’s the next issue for my restoration.
The interior of the fire bowl and lid will clean out nicely, over a few days, and I will put larger washers over the bolt holes after I clean out the rust. Would the red RTV gasket stuff work to seal the clean metal to the washes inside the kettle (should be just one, just enough to seal behind the washer) and not cause health issues?
Also, on the exterior, I have a similar plan in mind, but I also have some head gasket and exhaust manifold gaskets that I can’t sell (new) for an old big block restoration. I was considering cutting and using those in front of the washers to the bolt heads on the exterior…
Eventually I’ll buy a new bowl and lid, but I’ve other priorities at the moment.
