18.5 WSM Cover

Just assembled my new WSM last night. All seems well, but the cover is a real pain to get on/off. Has anyone cut one (or more) of the elastic straps on the inside bottom of the cover so that it will go on/off easier. I would hate to do that, but I'm afraid that if this problem persists, I will eventually remove the cover and leave it off forever. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I don't think all covers are created equal. Mine was a pita to get on/off also. You could slip a large trash bag over the WSM first, or cut the straps. I store mine in the garage so no cover needed.

As much as I hated to do it, I finally got frustrated enough to cut the straps. Now the cover goes on and comes off with ease. No more struggling with it. Yeah!!!

I'd thought about cutting the straps on my WSM and on my kettle. The straps make them difficult to go on and get caught on the handles and vents when I try to remove. Otherwise, they fit well. I guess I'll put up with it a little longer. I wouldn't want the wind to get under them.

I guess the purpose is to keep the cover tighter , maybe to keep wind from getting under it and blowing it off. If that's the case, I can't see much of a need on the WSM, but maybe the kettle.

Guess I got one of the good covers on my 18 1/2". Mine fits good and comes on and off easy. Had wind gusts of 50+ mph a week or so before Christmas. Heard a noise and went to see what had blown over on the deck and didn't really see anything. Noticed the WSM was not covered and went out to investigate. Found the cover in the yard about 30' from the WSM. Gust had to have gotten under it and lifted it right off.

I cut the straps on mine. I also flip the middle section over when I'm storing (less likely to let water in) and then cover with a heavy duty trash bag before putting cover on. Mine sits out in the open on the patio and stays dry as a bone. My orignial Weber cover is starting to breakdown though due to weather, need to get a new one.
