grill table

I've seen tons of the DIY tables where you insert your Kettle or Smokey. I'd like to build one myself. But are they safe? Can a charcoal grill or smoker be inset in these wood tables and be safe? Any tips on what to have in my design to make sure it is safe? Thank you!
