"Headless" HeaterMeter

Hi All, I am about to build my second HM and plan on making it "Headless", omitting the LCD, since I busted my first one and don't really miss it. I also want to leave out the button, since it's basically useless without an LCD. I am curious if I can just omit the LCD and button, along with the potentiometer and the "0 ohm resistor" that is supposed to be installed first. Or do I need to include some of these components or bridge specific contacts? Thanks in advance for the help!

No components are needed for other things to work. The only shared item is the shift register that runs both the LCD and LED #2 & #3

If you're cool with only having LED #1 work, then you can also avoid soldering in the 74HC595N shift register.
