Genesis Gold B restore question

Hello all. This is my first post beyond the introduce yourself thread. I picked up what I believe is a Genesis Gold B on Craigslist for $30 intending to restore. I think I may have made a mistake as there is a corroded layer of material on the inside of the Lid.
I don't see where I can get this as a replacement part so my questions are: Can I remove this layer and go without? If not, does anyone have any ideas? Should I scrap this and find a new project?

Thanks!!

Register your grill and call Weber CS, they will send you a new lid, free of charge. You are out if luck if the previous owner had it registered on his/her name though.

The Gold series have a double walled layer inside the lid. That piece is built into the lid and not a replacement part. As was mentioned, just remove it and carry on. For 30 bucks, that is a score! Congrats.
