Anybody using their mini like a uds?

Nice! Looks good. I see your grilling indirect. I've got a 22.5 kettle I can use. Then again I can throw'em on the smokey joe without the pot. I've always been a smoker. Never fooled with grilling much at all. So I'm gonna show my ignorance by asking if you had the lid on during the cook or not...

Anybody using their mini like a uds?

The distance was my main concern too. I've got my grate right at 7" above the coals. But I'm thinking of installing a second set of bolts just under the lip, giving me right at 11.5". My goal is to make my mini my "go to" chicken cooker. I'm wanting golden, crisp skin but not getting it. I cut...

Anybody using their mini like a uds?

Oh yes definitely discernible! The dripping fat turns to steam, providing a moist environment and really flavors the meat. It's one of the main things that folks like about a drum style cooker. I love it!

Anybody using their mini like a uds?

Hi guys Any of you guys using your minis like a uds? I'm talking about bottom cut out of pot, no diffuser, no water pan/drip pan. Basically nothing between the fuel and food? Just like a little drum? Reason I ask is I love the taste of the juices and fat dripping straight down on the coals...

How well does your Vasconia pot fit?

Thanks George. That's a good idea. Yeah I was really impressed! There were absolutely no leaks anywhere. It held temps even steadier than my uds, and that's saying something!

How well does your Vasconia pot fit?

George, I'm a believer! My boy's new mini took its maiden voyage today. Christened it with a fatty. You guys were right on about the leaks. There were no leaks anywhere! I even ran my maverick lead under the lid and it didn't leak there either. I couldn't be happier with its performance...

    My Mini WSM

Tim, just so I understand you right... Are you talking about foiling the steamer tray and placing it down where it would normally go? I'm liking that idea, just wasn't sure how the smoke would get through. Just trying to figure out what your doing. TE, I like your mini! Sorry for hijacking...

    Hello from Mississippi!

Thanks Mike! I spent some time in your neck of the woods too! I was a Marine stationed at Camp Lejuene in Jacksonville in the early/mid 90's. Beautiful country!

How well does your Vasconia pot fit?

George, do you have any leaks around that area? I suspect though that with the weight of the food and the seasoning, it outta seal up pretty good.

How well does your Vasconia pot fit?

Thanks George! That's helps my feelings a bit! That's exactly how I would describe my fit. This is my first one, so I wasn't sure how well it should fit. This particular build is special to me. My boy (he's almost 4) has been asking me to build him a "barrel" like daddies uds. Figure we'll fire...

How well does your Vasconia pot fit?

Reckon over time the seasoning will help seal it some? Btw, I haven't fired it up yet. Still have to cut bottom out.

How well does your Vasconia pot fit?

Hello! My sjg showed up today. To be honest, I was slightly disappointed. First thing I did was a fitment test with the Vasconia. The lid fit fine, no complaints. However the bottom didn't fit as well as I thought it should. I don't know how everybody else's fit, so it's hard to say if mine's...

    Hello from Mississippi!

Hi! I'm a uds guy. Been wanting to build a mini wsm for awhile now. I've had a Vasconia pot in the closet for the last couple of months. I finished reading all the threads about mini's today. Went ahead and dropped the hammer on a SJ Gold. Woo-hoo!!! :) Jason
