    HM 4.0 probe issues

I hate being such a PITA but I need some help again. I know this problem is brought on by my own modifications to Bryan's design. In my hopes of creating a waterproof HM, I put everything in a different case. I took the standard probe wires, cut them, and soldered them to a cable which goes...

Edup ep-ms8512 WIFI adapter not being recognized

Just curious and will ask the obvious: Was the adapter installed before power on? Yes Regardless of the led can you see an advertised AP (access point) SSID on your phone or laptop? No Have you tried booting the RPi without the PCB attached? No. Can you connect an ethernet cable and SSH in...

Edup ep-ms8512 WIFI adapter not being recognized

I had to put my HM on the back burner to finish up my BSEE. Now that it is done, I'm trying to finish it up before the 4th of July. I installed a Edup ep-ms8512 wifi adapter in my rPi and it is not recognizing it (there's no light on the adapter). I installed the adapter in my laptop and got...

    Screws for Heatermetercase

You can order a lifetime supply from Mcmaster.com. They're about $10 for 100 of them. If you have a Fastenal close they might have them. The great thing about McMaster is that you can always find other things to buy to offset the shipping of just a box of screws.

    HeaterMeter Hardware v4.2.4

Instead of adding space to the HM board why not design a breakout board. A quick look at the footprints suggests to me that a ~2 in^2 board would get 2 RJ45 connectors and an 8 position .1" pitch header.

HeaterMeter project / tindie on hold

So sorry for your loss. I know when I have lost loved ones everything seems like it is spiralling out of control, but it gets better. As well as you run the development of HM, I think there is no better person than you to run the company he created. You make well thought out decisions for...

    Alternative case layout idea

Have you used the Rustoleum Never-Wet? Looking for a first hand experience because I looked around on the web and found many people saying it didn't work well or at all. I like the idea of it but am not willing to try right now.

    Alternative case layout idea

I am this case http://www.okwenclosures.com/products/okw/datec-mobil/zoom/zA9075219.jpg I had to modify it to fit my screen and I'm making it waterproof (I hope). I haven't fisihed it and am waiting until it's working before I create a post with details and pics of it. Here is the front panel...

    v4.2.4 - Done broke it..

I just plugged it in and nothing got warm at all. I have touched up all of my solder joints since that seemed to be a recurring theme for issues lately but it still has the same issue. I disconnected the display and rechecked my voltages and they all dropped to 0V. I don't have a shorter...

    v4.2.4 - Done broke it..

I don't want to hijack this thread but I have a very similar issue. My HM v4.0 worked when I first soldered it but now that I am close to final assembly my screen has went wonky on me. The trim pot is adjusting the backlight so I'm fairly confident the cabling is correct. I am getting 4.9V...

If anybody needs button boards for Heatermeter

So I am ready to tie this breakout board into my HM. Where is the best place to tie it into the HM board, v4.0?

    All about thermocouples!

Here are few more I reference: http://cp.literature.agilent.com/litweb/pdf/5990-9794EN.pdf http://cp.literature.agilent.com/litweb/pdf/5965-7822E.pdf August 1st Agilent test & measurement becomes Keysight so I don't know how long these links will be valid.

    Waterproof case

Agreed as well on BOM. Does that wireless adapter act as an AP? That would be awesome if so.

Did they put gold flakes in the rub? $39 for 2 batches of rub is ridiculous

    Thermocouple Board Success (sort of)

AAAh you're right. I did a find on the pdf for CMRR and found that. Do you have a copy of the schematic hamdy?

    Thermocouple Board Success (sort of)

The noise you talk about should be taken out in the AD8494. Looking at the spec for the amp, it says "For best accuracy and CMRR performance, the setpoint voltage should be created with a low impedance source. If the setpoint voltage is generated with a voltage divider, a buffer is...

    PCBGRIP: Electronics Assembly System

That is cool. I have the standard Panavise PCB assembler but the ability to holder several parts at once upside down is awesome. Here at work we have a PCB assembly department used for small production parts. Thay have something where you put all your parts in and then a foam board comes...

    Want thermocouple support? Wait!

I spoke with the guru of TC's here at work and he had a couple of suggestions. He thinks a good portion of the variation appears to be poor junction compensation and poor isothermal connections. The TC amplifier add on board is also not a great design from an isothermal standpoint in his...
