Can someone explain the lid vent on the WSK? Why so loose?

I'll invite you over next time the 4 year old is here.

Can someone explain the lid vent on the WSK? Why so loose?

Will do, Brett. Most of my cooks are very simple, little challenge. Nothing like what I see from you. I've done chicken, steaks, burgers, sausage, beef tenderloin and pork tenderloin so far and all turned out great except that my burgers and sausage were a little overdone. I know what to do next...

Can someone explain the lid vent on the WSK? Why so loose?

Update: If I had waited just one more day before starting this thread it would not have been necessary. After last night's cook it's clearly beginning to get sticky and can survive a gentle lid lift. Once the pit cooled and the grease solidified I pushed down on the top of the vent and moved the...

Well then I'd better get cooking! Thanks, Mark and RLittle.

Can someone explain the lid vent on the WSK? Why so loose?

Are they all like that? By design? What do I not understand? Here in my ignorance I find it annoying that I have to remember to adjust the lid vent after each lift. Any ideas on how to tighten it a bit? I'd rather have to adjust it with a hammer than to leave it as is. :)

    I doubt that.

Where to purchase Weber Summit Kamado?

Purchased mine March 30 on Amazon. The earliest delivery date I was offered was April 12 but the pit arrived in a local terminal 9 days before that. I called the shipper and asked for an earlier delivery. They couldn't do it but said that I could pick it up which I did. I got the E6 which fit...

    It is done

My vision is poor and during the cook I was unable to see very well into the charcoal level. Now that the pit has cooled and the grate removed I can see what was going on. The temp drop during the cook was because of fat dripping onto the coals, so much that the fire was being partially...

    It is done

First cook went very well in many respects. Of course, the final product is what counts the most but everything leading up to that went very well and it's clear I've made a great choice of a cooker in large part thanks to this fine community of BBQ freaks. My curiosity about whether or not the...

    It is done

I'm sure it does! I'll probably go with ribs low and slow for the first cook. I said first cook is tomorrow but I forgot about a grandchild's birthday party so it will have to be Sunday.

    It is done

Thanks, Nick. I've got the safety bolts in a safe place but I won't replace the lid until needed which may be a long while. What time should we arrive tomorrow?

    It is done

I picked up my WSK yesterday, assembled it and did a burn-in. No cooks yet but will do one tomorrow (Saturday). Lid arrived with several scratches but Weber is sending a new lid. Since they told me to keep the scratched one I continued with the assembly and burn-in. One chimney of Kingsford Pro...

    It is done

You're welcome, Brock. :) I've owned Weber products before (still have my WSM and a Summit gas) and have always been impressed but I've never owned a Kettle. That's not to say that I don't appreciate what the Kettle can do and do well and that's not to say I don't appreciate what the Kettle has...

Thanks, Jon. Delivery expected April 12. I'll do some pics once I start cooking. I can't wait to put this thing to the test.

    Vietnamese char grilled chicken thighs

I'm holding you to that, Brett. Took a look at that last pic and had to dry out my keyboard.
