New Roadside Find

Thanks all for the compliments. I will admit I'm pretty happy with this one. I am just getting a feel for the difference between this and the Genesis Silver B I was using previously. The additional row of flavorizer bars seem to make it seem a little more stable. Grilling by L Baltz, on Flickr

    New Roadside Find

I finally finished this project and reclaimed the space in my garage. I hope the next one doesn't take 18 months! The right hand grate arrived damaged and I've since replaced it and seasoned it. I'm pleased with the cast iron after a few trial runs but it was cheap and I may try RC Planebuyers...

Advice for Genesis 1000 rehab please

It's good to know that worked as it's not uncommon. I have shot my grill with IR thermometer and I don't think the bottom of the grill gets very hot. I seem to remember that when the firebox is 550 or so the bottom of the firebox was under 175 degrees.

Scored a Genesis Silver B! Some questions about part-swapping

Don't worry about using penetrating oil in the box. Once you reassemble and heat things up for 15 minutes or so any residue will be long gone.

1999 Genesis 3000 Rehab Time to revive this thread. It was too cold in my workshop this winter so I'm finally getting to the restoration of the 1999 Genesis 3000 which is pictured on page one of this thread. I have sawn a few pieces of mahogany as a test to replace the original cedar (I'll...

thinking about getting a new TV

Oh I remember the big CRTs and I don't miss them one bit! We have had great luck with the Samsungs in general. The 8000 series is sweet. We made a lot of money with Fujitsu Plasma with a 30 point margin and the 63" at $25K! Those days are gone. We tell client's to buy their own TVs these days...

thinking about getting a new TV

When I'm not grilling, I design and install A/V systems. To get red of the animated or "soap opera effect" turn off or minimize auto motion plus on the Samsung TVs. Here's a great website for choosing and evaluating TVs. They also have the recommended settings for each TV...

That's a beauty! Did you buy the durawood slats from Weber or is that grey stained wood?

    New Roadside Find

On my Genesis Silver B I just sanded the surface to smooth out the rough finish leaving most of the original paint. I cleaned with compressed air and then wiped it down with acetone on a rag before applying Rustoleum high heat paint After heavy use this season I have no sign of peeling. I will...

    New Roadside Find

I found the serial # on a paper sticker on the back side of the side burner. After referencing the Weber site I was able to verify it is a 1998, 3000. I'm excited to get this one in service as I've never had a Weber with the bidirectional flavorizer bars. As far as parts, most of what I need...

    New Roadside Find

THyde, your grill looks fantastic! Great idea with the wood but I have a bunch of teak I scavenge from construction sites and use on my boat. That stuff (oiled) is impervious to weather and will not warp (plus I think it will look nice next to the black). I'll post pics along the way. Thanks...

    New Roadside Find

This is a grill I picked up on the side of the road on Sunday. After a bit of research I'm fairly certain it's a '98 3000 or 5000. The serial # tag was on the removable side burner so I don't think that was an add-on kit. Weber site says it's a 3000, but many other sites say it's a 5000 so...

My First Restore - Genesis Silver B

Thanks for all of the compliments. I did another quicky clean up this summer and sold it for $175 2008 Weber Performer 1 by L Baltz, on Flickr[/IMG] I have a new find, which I'm very excited about, of which I will post pictures tonight.

My First Restore - Genesis Silver B

This grill got all new internals. Rustoleum Hi Temp paint on the exterior of the fire box, painted the cart, new ignitor and cleaned every surface. I got it for 0$ so it was a great deal. Works like a charm! Genesis B 1 by L Baltz, on Flickr[/IMG] Genesis B 2 by L Baltz, on Flickr
