Removing knobs on Genesis Silver B

Get two large metal spoons. Place the spoon tips under the knob directly opposite one another and push down on the handles. The knobs on my Silver A pull straight up.

    Experts needed

Todd: The condition of the wood handles probably means that the grill spent its life outdoors and that the lid has faded from black to gray. Check the interior of the lid for the original color. I recently rescued a 1986 kettle that has faded to a really nice shade of gray.

Tell me about my CL find

Walt: No, I didn't document my restoration, but there's not much to it. Disassemble. Clean everything - oven cleaner, Bar Keeper's Friend, SOS, Dawn, 0000 steel wool - whatever works. Install new burners (ordered from Weber parts) and flavorizer bars. Cook. Search "restoration" in this...

Tell me about my CL find

That looks like a 2000-2001 Genesis Silver A and very similar to a 2002 Silver A that I recently restored. On my grill, the serial number and model number are on a sticker attached to the right side frame underneath the cooking box. There should be five flavorizer bars. I bought stainless...

    Cleaning Weber Charcoal Grill

I agree with Alberto regarding the oven cleaner. On a recent restoration I used a couple of cans of cheap oven cleaner before I wised up and bought the good stuff - Easy OFF - there is a difference. Spray heavily then wrap the kettle in a big plactic bag to keep it from drying out and leave it...

    My new Weber Fam

That's a very nice score, Jose. Regarding the two screws, the ends of the burner tubes slide under the screw heads and are held in place once the manifold is secured. Unless you had some other reason to remove the screws there is no need to remove them if you are just replacing the burner...

    how much unlit to use

Not sure if this will help since you were asking about lump, but I got a good 6 hour smoke from this setup on Sunday. Filled the bowl with Kingsford to just even with the bottom of the vent holes and added 10 lit coals. Side vents 1/3 open Top vent 3/4 open (bbq thermometer occupies one...

The Correct IMUSA 32 qt pot!

If you're in the Atlanta area and need a pot for your mini-smoker, try the Food Depot supermarket - 25 or so stores in metro Atlanta. My local store had two on the shelf - IMUSA 32 qt made in China. Price was a bit high at $28.
