    HeaterMeter Homebrew Controller

I've decided to bail on the use of computer fans. I'm picking up a 19 CFM blower from digikey, hopefully that will be enough. On another note, i've found something of interest that could help reduce code size. http://www.emartee.com/product...0LCD%201602%20Shield

    HeaterMeter Homebrew Controller

I've got a double 55 gallon barrel setup. Kind of looks like a T shape. Right now its only the lid that leaks a bit. I think I linked some pics in earlier posts on this thread.

Thanks ed. I was wondering about the fuel usage. I was just wondering as my local parts warehouse has some cheap induction fans in a length of pipe. My pit is pretty leaky and I've been trying to seal it all up with high temp sealent. I've yet to get a good fan setup that I like and works on my...

Wondering if anyone has tried using an induction fan in the chimney instead of a fan blowing on the fire?

In other news, I have my Xoom reading the serial input! Had to bump the baud rate down, but it's working so far. Check out a screenshot here

Here is my test fan setup. You're right, the fan can't really handle the back pressure from the funneling. I actually feel more air coming out the back of the fan than the tube end. This was just a test setup to see how it worked. I learned a few things, firstly, my pit runs much hotter than i...

    HeaterMeter Homebrew Controller

yep, just working out a way to attach it all to the smoker now! So anyway, I started with the schematic from the first page as you mentioned. But then added a resistor i noticed on the git schematic and then the second resistor for the LCD. I actually re-drew the schematic in the fritzberg...

Graph Well that app really helped with being able to use a larger sample number. What I ended up doing was taking readings every 2C while boiling water. I did this first as it's a much smoother temperature increase and a lot slower than using the oven. However, I had to switch to the oven to...

    HeaterMeter Homebrew Controller

Yeah, i'm really getting into the "just because" this summer. Actually built a double 55 gallon barrel smoker, which is what this heatmeter project is being used for. Next, my dad wants me to do something for his greenhouse. So, anyway, I've been looking for some probes and given I'm in canada...

    HeaterMeter Homebrew Controller

yeah i should be able to do a patch diff. Same as you i'm just hitting it on my lunch breaks. Since i decided not to go with a linkmeter version i wanted to be able to do more over serial connection. I'll be updating to handle connect/disconnect and re-populating the list. As far as the...

    HeaterMeter Homebrew Controller

I've done some quick upgrades to the windows application to work with the latest and greatest firmware from git. Since i don't have the ability to update it there, you can find my fork and get it from http://dev.bitbounce.ca/FogBug.../Group/Windows-devel It adds com port enumeration and baud...

    HeaterMeter Homebrew Controller

I noticed while playing at my desk that after I plug it in via usb and it's not working, as soon as I open the serial monitor in arduino ide it kicks on. I have better luck using external power to have it turn on without issues. Doesn't always work, but often does.

    HeaterMeter Homebrew Controller

well, i'm in the final process of moving everything to a PCB. I just decided to use a arduino proto shield as it was actually the cheapest option. So far i've spent at least 8 hours. So tedious! A few lessons learned too. Keep double checking your layouts and fit to your case! I ended up with a...

    HeaterMeter Homebrew Controller

Thanks. Ill double check the specs but I'm running an uno. Can't wait to get it running with the smoker. Need to transfer to a board next. And find some food probes!

    HeaterMeter Homebrew Controller

So let me know if i'm wrong here. It sounds like i can plug mu "12v" adaptor into my adruino uno directly? It should regulate that input to the 5v (and 3.3) that you can tap into? I can then run my board off the 5V (which is what i'm doing now). I could then run separate connection from the plug...

    HeaterMeter Homebrew Controller

Thanks, i'll try out the different probes later. I have another question/observation. Everything is together and running (less having the probes resistance set correctly). I notice two things right now. 1) i'm only running of usb 5v, and when i first plug it in nothing works until i hit...

    HeaterMeter Homebrew Controller

So, i've been working on a heatmeter based on the schematic on the first page. Originally I was looking to make the linkmeter version, but decided that since i'd need an adruino (or make a tinyusb programmer) that i'd just get the adruino. I just decided to start with that and then adapt as...

HeaterMeter + LinkSys WiFi Router = LinkMeter

yeah, that's a bummer. I've just been looking at the hacking community for the card, and as of yet there really isn't anything useful for hacking the cards firmware. Kind of disappointing really. Problem is it just needs more interest. They are using eOs and released their source for that, but...

HeaterMeter + LinkSys WiFi Router = LinkMeter

So I just had a bit of a hmmmmm moment. With the SD card hack/addition, what about using an Eye-Fi module to leave out the router and/or the wishield option of the heatmeter build? It's about $50 retail for a 4gb card. Could be an interesting modification if it's possible. Thoughts?
