I have also read that cooking tomatoes in cast iron will require re-seasoning after. I did end up doing 2 cycles of re-seasoning on it.
I made my own cast iron seasoning using beeswax & grapeseed oil.
1 part pure beeswax 3 parts grapeseed/avocado oil
Thank You. The kids wanted "burgers & chili" this past Labor Day weekend. So I decided to do it right with smoked chuck & cast iron dutch oven. I will say this was one of the families favorites. The smoked chuck really hit it home.
It was a test run for our annual Halloween chili. This year we...
Wanted to add that this was my first time using Fogo Charcoal Briquettes. They worked out great, lit fairly quickly, lasted a long time with very little ash.
I made some Weber Kettle smoked Chili in cast iron dutch oven.
I used Matt Pittman's Meat Church- Texas Chili recipe
Started the morning off by smoking 2lbs Chuck Roast with oak chunks. Spritzing occasionally with Worcestershire & beef broth . Once internal temp hit about 170, I put in foil...
I stocked up on the Competition Oak Briquettes 7.49 at Academy Sports.
Once those are gone I will not be using B&B charcoal again. They sold out to Duraflame and now ruining a product that was amazing.
Tom says it like it is. I sent B&B a direct message asking them if the B&B Oak/Hickory is replacing Competition Oak Briquettes ( Texas Style).
Their website does NOT differentiate between the two options, which tells me they are replacing the reliable Competition Oak Briquettes with the Oak &...

Twelve Rules for Better Burgers
The SnS Backyard Burger demo was good, emphasis on light packing the meat. I like the use of a baking ring over a burger...
Thank you for sharing. That technique while a little more complicated, does makes a lot of sense.
White Castle used to put holes in their burgers for the same reason.
Warning Spoiler alert for those who haven't seen Kenji's All time favorite Burger video-

I was at my local Goodwill looking for some cheap metal tongs for moving charcoal.
I wandered over to an aisle to look for cast iron finds.
Found this gem hidden under a stack of rusty looking metal pans.
Le Crueset 12.5 Bistro Grill - I got it for $5.99.
Texted the wife with a picture and...
It is nice having 2 kettles( actually 3 including 1980s Happy Cooker) We also have a Weber Q 2800N+
I really don't need another grill. If anything would love to have an older Genesis for nostalgia.
I use the Q for quick week night meals, & full griddle smash burgers/ breakfast. The Weber Q is...
I like the Crimson because it's a unicorn. No other standard Performer that color. Someone on here dropped a blue kettle in the same style cart. My crimson one reminds me of the Weber One Touch Platinum (platypus) that I would love to get my hands on.
The Weber Performer Deluxe is nice, I...
I recall seeing the letter code table never saw the cypher " AUTHORIZED". I worked at an Osco/Skaggs drug store when I was in highschool. The price tags had a letter code cypher " CHARLESTON". The letters (& corresponding numbers 1-0) indicated the actual retailers cost of the item. As employees...
I need to make room for a bigger LP grill, I have 2 Performers and will be torn on which one to part with.
I have modified them both to be really good grills for low & slow.
I dropped a Crimson Performer Deluxe into a standard Performer, added an SnS smoke port, makes for a good smoking rig...
Thanks for the information Josh. The 7509 part number didn't show up on the 900 or 1000 schematic.
I see what you are referring to with the deeper box and framing. The 1000 has 2 rows of flavorizer bars. I am pretty new to the LP gas grilling, only use the Weber Q , I am loving the quick...
