    Big Steel Keg question

I have a keg & it takes a LOT of patience not to overshoot. If your gasket is older, you probably need to replace it, that helped mine a bunch. I don't use heatermeter a lot, just on low & slows but at the beginning I couldn't run below 275* (no damper, fan would naturally draft too much to...

    Meater wire free probe intergration.

I know Bryan has at least 1. there's a Meater thread from the kickstarter timing that I bumped a couple months ago. I bought 2. My one-word review is 'meh'. I have a big steel keg - My phone has to be within a few feet to hold signal. No way to calibrate - at room temp, my 2 probes read 8*F...

    General 3D Printing Thread

thanks Bryan, I was assuming it was either I fried something or did something dumb, but I couldn't find a spec that was 'key' to choosing motors - I wanted to cross that off the list. It was (partially) the latter. I wondered what the bag of jumpers was for when I got the RAMPS, but forgot...

    General 3D Printing Thread

Thank you Bryan, your advise helped me get rolling. Now I need help with getting under power. I bought a cheap RAMPS/Arduino/A4988 kit off ebay for $20, figured that would get me going. Seems like it won't power the motors. I bought some motors on Amazon that looked like they'd work, but...

Question for those that have a C-Bot / D-Bot. I'm building a D-Bot & I'm to the Z-carriage installation and the wheels won't roll. Only 1 on each side rolls, the others slide. the carriage moves smoothly, just the wheels aren't spinning. I think I've got 1 or both of the problems below...

    The meater

Of course they did, that's why it took them an extra year to get them out the door. I suspected that would be the case, especially since they don't show up in bluetooth devices on my phone.

    The meater

Somewhat disappointed. I need some more time to diagnose, but neither probe worked well in it's maiden voyage. Full disclosure, my fried & his son came by, so I was distracted but I don't think that played into the probe issues. Reverse seared 2 1.5" ribeyes yesterday. Meater probes were...

    The meater

Back from the dead, my Meater probes showed up this week (glad I forgot about them or I'd be ****ed). Anybody else? The app isn't great (Android), mostly fluff like the Anova app. I got 2, so I'll start to work on getting the CHIP to talk to it. Maybe I'll actually use both kickstarter...

Heatermeter 4.3 not recognized by pi

A hot air rework station helps immensely when removing multi-pin components. You can get solder wick hot enough to brand you 6-8 inches away from the heat source even before you touch the part. My thumb hurts just thinking about it. I don't think I've used the solder sucker since I got one. I...

    trouble with heater meater

I wouldn't suggest this. Unsoldering the socket is a PITA & risks burning traces. If it's just the socket that's backwards, it's fine. Just put the ATmega in correctly per the PCB & it will work. It's just straight pins, not keyed or crossed in any way. The sizzling sound could be flux &...

Using a flux pen with Rosin core solder?

Flux pens are great for knocking off that poorly soldered 0603 SMD component that you don't notice until you have odd problems...... Otherwise, they're GTG

    3D RAMPs BBQ Controller Idea

I'm worried that one of these days your frankenprojects are going to come to life & destroy us all.

HM keeps overshooting and then fire dies and needs to be relit at 225.

I have a big steel keg, which might be even more insulated, and this is solid advice for these types of grills. You need to seal up the bottom vent - I use AL duct tape. DO NOT OVERSHOOT. REPEAT, DO NOT OVERSHOOT.

Quick question - For the PETG & servo, does the plastic move freely/quietly? I haven't made anything from PETG that needs to move, but it feels like it would be 'sticky' when rubbing together. It has a 'soft' surface finish that seems to increase friction. SteveCK - I think the glossiness is...

I also had stuttering on a Pi B+ with & without a camera, but I swapped it for a Pi2 and it went away. I didn't think to try to kill mjpeg process. Bryan (earlier in this thread) suggested connecting printer via serial vs USB, but I didn't try that solution. $40 < headache of soldering &...

If you're having feed issues, you might be under-extruding on long runs & corners, such as the outer perimeters of a HM case. my spool holder is just a 1/2" PCV axle sitting on uprights on top of the printer. there are times, especially when making a long run or a long travel move, that the...

    General 3D Printing Thread

3d printing is more voodoo than science. Try sacrificing a goat. Even better, grill it afterward. mmmm, cabrito. My ABS warping is usually cured by temp/speed or some combination of the 2. It's a goldilocks thing - too slow is as bad as too fast. Too hot, same as too cold.... It's probably...
