I do the same, 2 or 3 times a year it goes to the transfer station.

I've made them from wood shavings and paraffin in egg cartons, don't need much. The Weber cubes are more convenient but I find them a bit of a hassle to get out of the tray.

I had one hang at 60%, at least that's what it said. I exited via the back arrow on my android phone and it showed 100%. This one worked fine although it looks like it may be there twice when I hit full size.

I find it easier to handle the half burnt coals after they cool if I use the baskets, shake and reuse what remains. I was using 2 baskets at one side till I made a bigger one.

That's an interesting thought, use different pellets for different heat requirements, kind of like charcoal types.

I use that one for spices, don't think I could get a consistent grind from it for coffee. I am happy with OXO's $100 burr grinder. Also a $30th Javaprese manual one for travel.

jon, how's the grease mgmt on the Rec Tec working out for you?

I have to let mine heat up for about 15 minutes, any less is not enough.

Now I'll have to try cleaning and reusing.

I've started to use the planks, but changed to cheaper non Weber ones although the Weber are a little nicer, $20 for 12 vs $10 for 2. Just my opinion but while I like the smell they add to the fish i mostly like the way they absorb all the oil. I do wish they were a tad bigger. I only use one...
