pulled pork for a large group

That's a lotta pork! My 18" WSM will only fit two on a rack, so I assume you're using a 22"er? I know it doesn't answer your question, but having cooked large amounts like this in the past, my suggestion would be to cook them ahead of time - pulled pork reheats EXTREMELY well in a crock pot /...

HM version 4 Rpi 3d print case

Best Method for using the HeaterMeter on long smokes?

What are you guys with WSMs doing with the water pan? Filling it with water? Using a clay saucer? Sand? Nothing? I've got a piedmont pan setup that I line with foil and use when I do salmon, but running the smoker manually I've always used a single Brinkmann pan filled with water. I'm inclined...

    rPi+HM4 LAN and WiFi Issue

When I first set mine up, I tried to power it with a 5v phone charger via USB, and couldn't get the Edimax dongle to stay powered up. EDIT: Wanted to add, this was supposedly a 1A wall charger for a phone. Appears it didn't quite put out that much. As soon as I powered it with the 12v wall...

    Favorite/Best Food Processor?

We picked up an 11-cup (I believe) Kitchen Aid a few years ago based on the Cooks Illustrated review - they seemed to like it the most, and it wasn't too horribly expensive. Has a mini-bowl that fits inside the big one so you can do smaller quantities (although our mini-prep food processor does...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 2

HAH! I completely missed the "Presets" link under the Coefficients boxes! Working perfectly - thanks, Bryan!

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 2

Sooooo.....the Vishay 10k thermistor. I've seen the data sheet. I don't see the coefficients that the heatermeter config needs, though.... Am I missing what I need, or (even better) anyone have the numbers I need to plug in so I'm not reading 207 degrees ambient? Thank you!!! Jarrod

    rPi Wireless Setup Help

I ended up setting mine up via Luci / GUI, even though I'm mostly comfortable monkeying with the config files manually. A couple things I found: 1. It seemed that powering everything via the cell phone charger / micro USB route didn't give me enough juice to run everything. The LCD would fade...

What is this "clean up" procedure you speak of?

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

I played around with the config a bit more and ended up setting the wired interface to not load at boot. It fired up with my wifi address more than once, so I think I'm good to go there. I then made an entry in my router to port forward traffic from outside to inside on port 80. Combined with...

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

Any guidance for getting the network configuration to stick? Last night I got the RPi and Heatermeter combo up and running via wifi. I clicked to disable the wired interface, saved that then shut it down. Today, it's back with the wired interface address, and the device won't respond at the wifi...

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

Not having powered mine up and played with it yet, I was wondering the same thing. If there's nothing in there right now, I sort of envision a script within the web page / display app that sends an email to my cell provider's SMS gateway using Gmail for the outgoing message.

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

Jason, on the parts availability: I asked similar questions earlier in this thread, and Bryan inspired me to start a new thread with alternative parts - http://tvwbb.com/showthread.php?38268-Alternate-parts-and-sources-%28for-RPi-and-Heatermeter-4-0%29 - that'll answer your board-to-RPi...

Alternate parts and sources (for RPi and Heatermeter 4.0)

I finished assembly of my heatermeter last night, and all went according to plan. NOTE: If you're planning on running the heatermeter in stand-alone mode, the alternative header socket / connector I linked above IS wider, as Bryan reported - and it's wider-enough that it would interfere with...

Smokey, char-grilled flavor. Why is it missing from my burgers?

I think I know exactly what you're talking about, and I think it's more related to the grease content still on the grill than the meat. A local deli cooks burgers that have the flavor I think you're talking about. They are NOT cooked hot and fast. They even end up tenting some foil over the...

Alternate parts and sources (for RPi and Heatermeter 4.0)

I posted the question and got answers here, but we'll open this up with its own thread as well.... As of this morning, referencing the parts lists: Mouser is out of stock on the 10k trimmer resistor / pot in the project list Digikey is out of stock on the header socket And the wifi dongle...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 2

I almost started a new thread, but then I saw some similar requests in this one. I'll get a new one started with the pertinent info from this one. Once DigiKey's ordering site decides to respond I'll complete that order. He's on it! Swapped in the 10k Bourns pot, Mouser order is now placed...
