    Alabama > Tuscaloosa: Dreamland BBQ

My wife, an alumna of the University of Alabama, introduced this Connecticut Yankee to Dreamland during a visit to Tuscaloosa in 1999. I hope the ribs haven't changed since then -- as I recall, they were sublime. The menu, however, has obviously changed. Back when I stopped in (admittedly...

Weber One Touch Gold? or Platinum?

By the way, the Weber rotisserie attachment will fit on a Performer. I have not tried to fit it onto a Platinum, but I do not know of any reason why it would not fit on that model, as well. However, the lid handle placement (toward the side, rather than on the top), may make the lid somewhat...

Weber One Touch Gold? or Platinum?

John, I own a 1991 Performer (w/o the gas-assist) and a One-touch Silver that I have modified to the point that it has all of the features (and more) of the One-touch Gold. I have also cooked on the new One-touch Platinum. I agree with everything that Don has said, particularly with respect to...

    Riddle me this....

The cast iron route might be less expensive over time, if you take care of it. My wife's grandmother's cast iron skillet is 65 years old, and my wife would like to pass it on to our grandchildren.

    Riddle me this....

Paying $120 for a Weber 26.75" replacement grate would be a tragic error. Try this and save a buck. http://www.cast-iron-grate.com...e-original-p-17.html

    Steaks... Sear? Smoke?

I can offer no input re: a sear burner. As for smoke wood, I will occasionally toss a chunk of mesquite into the fire under a bone-in ribeye. Someday I am going to try cooking steaks over an oak fire - no charcoal, just oak chunks. I invite anyone who has done this to share their impressions...

    Weber Identification - Lime Green

Mac's brother-in-law's kettle was probably manufactured no later than November 1970. The "patent pending" referenced on the lid vent was no longer pending as of 11/10/70, the date the patent issued. http://www.freepatentsonline.com/3538906.pdf

    Vintage Weber Kettle Grill?

The patent pending referenced on the lid vent, which relates to the coupling between the kettle leg and socket on the bottom of the bowl and eliminated the need for thumbscrews to hold the legs in place, was issued on November 10, 1970. Your kettle was almost certainly manufactured before that...

    My First "Brownie"

The lid vent is the more recent style - note the wider tab, the large lower case "weber" lettering in the center, and the larger vent holes. This suggests that Brian's beautiful kettle was manufactured some time after 1970, when the older style lid vents were still being used - unless the lid...

    Performer rotisserie

News to me, too. The lid holder bolts on my 1991 Performer do not interfere with the rotisserie ring at all, as their location in the bowl is below the bottom of the roti ring. I do not own a post-2005 Performer, but would be VERY surprised if the placement of the lid holder bolts is any...

    kettle rotisserie

The Weber Rotisserie attachment is built for Weber's standard 22.5" kettle, and thus fits any Performer.

    Charcoal[s] BTUs per pound

I don't know how many BTUs per pound charcoal generates. I DO know that I will never, ever, ever be able to get my gas grill as hot as I can get my kettle, simply because propane will never, ever, ever burn as hot as a load of charcoal under the same conditions. That is simple, immutable...

    Roadside Chicken

Cooked up a batch of Roadside Thighs for dinner tonight. I have made this recipe many times before, and expect to make it many times again. Friends, Bryan S. is a great great man.

    Lid vent stuck

I got my WSM new in December 2007. Very recently, after a marathon cook session that lasted over 24 hours, I noticed that my lid vent is stuck in the open position. It almost feels as though the vent is glued to the lid. I don't find any stickiness anywhere else in or on my cooker. I fuel my...

    Wish Me Luck!

Joe, on a kettle of that vintage, I suspect that you will find that there are no spaces in the leg sockets into which you can insert the tabs for the current ash-catcher assembly. If you are bound and determined to have an OTG ash-catcher, I think that you will have to resort to cutting into...

    Performer needs a new kettle

Wouldn't it be easier to adapt a silver kettle, as it has only the one side handle?

    Totally unbelievable !

I own kettles of several vintages, and have a lid manufactured in the 1970's, a second manufactured in 1991, a third from 1999, and a fourth from 2006. There is no difference (that I can perceive) in the weight or thickness of any of these lids.

    Silver vs Gold

One other difference between the OTS and the OTG, for whatever it's worth, is that the wire triangle connecting the legs of the OTS is less substantial than the triangle found on the OTG, and cannot really be used as a storage rack. I don't really need the OTG's triangle, as there is not very...
