    Bar-b-kettle novelty grill

Dan, I have one that I purchased a few years ago at the Weber Grill Restaurant in Chicago. It is made of metal, can't say whether it is aluminum, steel, or some other metal, and I am nearly certain that the black color is paint, rather than a porcelain coat. It has one grate, and no lid. The...

    Are the older Webers thicker?

I have lids manufactured in the '70s, the '90s, and the '00s. There is no perceptible weight difference between any of them.

I thought it was OTS - 1 handle on bowl; OTG - 2 handles on bowl.

    Boneless Butt Help?

Thanks, all, for the sage advice. The butts will go on the WSM shortly; I am confident that, with your generous assistance, they will turn out wonderfully.

    Boneless Butt Help?

Bill, I typically get my pork butts at BJ's (bone-in), but these boneless butts came from Statewide Meat & Poultry in New Haven. I am cooking for 35 to 40 people. In addition to the butts in the WSM, I will be doing Cornell Chicken on the kettle - four and a half dozen thighs. I have some...

    Boneless Butt Help?

Eric, I have done several overnight cooks of bone-in butts, but never four at a time. I have a couple of Maverick remote thermometers, which I do use.

    Boneless Butt Help?

I have been asked to barbecue some pork butts on my 18.5" WSM for an event this coming Thursday afternoon and evening. I have today learned that the butts will be boneless. My previous experience with pork butts is limited to the bone-in variety, so I thought I would ask you folks how I...

    Seasoning Cast Iron Grate

I lay down a light coat of Crisco before and after every cook. It has served me well.

    Replacement Weber Performer ignition system

I have a Red Performer without gas-assist, for which I happily paid $75. The date code on the lid vent is "N" - 1991. This one looks a lot like mine - including the mini-storage area where the ignitor button and propane tank would otherwise be. I keep a disposable long-neck lighter and a pair...

Time to replace the grate on my kettle...

I got the Craycort grate 14 months ago. I am very happy with it, but I certainly recognize that it is not for everyone. I have had no trouble keeping my grate seasoned - it has built up a nice glossy black finish, and now has what is essentially a non-stick surface. Rust simply has never been...

I bought my 26.75 inch kettle a friend (cast iron grate.)

Justin, your wife's doubts re: the need for the Craycort grate will vanish with her first bite of the first steak you pull off of that grate.

    Adding coals?

Eric, I see that you are in Farmington, CT, and plan on picking up some Maple Leaf in the next several weeks during a planned visit to Montreal. I am in West Hartford. If you would be willing to do a major solid for a neighbor and fellow TVWBB member, and you have some room in your car during...

How to Convert Silver to Gold...?

John, if your Silver is of a more recent vintage, the leg sockets will have the slots that the tabs on the ash-catcher ring snap into. I retro-fitted the ash-catcher assembly onto my 2006 OTS without need for any cutting.

Do you keep your grills out year round

I live in Connecticut. Because I use them year-round, I keep my all of my cookers (Performer, WSM, two 22.5" kettles, a gasser and an SJS) out on the patio year-round. The Performer is 19 years old; one of the kettles is at least 32 years old (and may be 40 years old). All but the SJS are...

Weber One Touch Gold? or Platinum?

I am left-handed. I like my Performer anyway.

    lid holder

The slide-aside attachment is more functional than the Performer's tuck-away lid holder - the slide-aside provides significantly better clearance from the grill's cooking surface.
