How do you run the wires (Maverick Questions)?

quote:
Look at alt.binaries.food

Gary, thanks for the tip on cutting with a Dremel. It's been 7 years since I went to a newsgroup page, and I don't remember how to do it. Sorry to be a PITA, but could you or...

    It's heeeeere!!!!

Mike, I think you'll find that you will prefer your kettle over your WSM. If this is indeed the case, I'll be happy to take the WSM off your hands for say, a $25 handling fee.

How do you run the wires (Maverick Questions)?

Craig, I've been thinking about that very idea. I think it would work well. How about you make the first cut and tell me how it goes?

    Sand ?

Sandbox sand is fine, as long as it's relatively clean, and hasn't been used by cats as a litterbox.

    Maverick ET 73 Good Report

Mine is still chugging right along with close to 35 hours on the original batteries. And I'll also agree on the 100' distance being an exaggeration, even with a totally clear line of sight. But once you get used to the realities and limitations of it, everything is good.

    keeps getting better

John, give brisket a try. They're a favorite around my home. Also, I just smoked some kingfish last week and have been enjoying fish spread ever since. At some point down the line I'll try cheese.

Doin' it for the first time!

    Sounds perfect Doug, good luck!

    Wavering . . .

Get the WSM and you won't ever regret your decision. Patch up the Sunbeam as needed until next year, then buy a Weber kettle. If you get a "firebox pit smoker that seems like it could be used to smoke AND grill", you'll still be relegated to tending the fire for smokes, and you'll always wish...

How do you run the wires (Maverick Questions)?

Hi Craig, I also have a Maverick. I haven't settled on a permanent solution yet. The first few times I put the wires under the lid. It ended up crimping the wires some, so I quit that way. Lately I've been just feeding them through the top vent. It's much easier on the wires. Unfortunately the...

Just got my WSM...& it's out of round!

Doug, I think mine is a little out of round as well. I believe I've seen Chris post that they will ship out a new section even if you have used your warped one. Do a search and I'm sure you'll find it. Sometimes I wonder if mine being out of round doesn't screw up my temp control some. I think...

    first time ribs/last minute Q's

Hi Brian, I almost always rotate the top and bottom racks, to help even out the temp difference in the foods. As far as the water temp goes.... It seems I remember a class long ago in science that proved that it took longer for hot tap water to come to a boil than cool tap water. If this...

    WSM Instructional video's on Smoking

So would the video on smoking butts be 15-20 hours long?

    With sand in the pan??

I agree with the above too. It also adds a little piece of mind for me on long cooks. It's nice not having to worry about the pan running dry, or refilling it.

    Leaving your WSM unattended

Once the temp is stable, I'll leave if I need to. I treat it the same way I would an oven cooking.

    Pork Ribs: "3-2-1" cook?

PJ, you owe it to yourself to try the foil at least once. It really does make the ribs very tender, while keeping them juicy. And the 3-2-1 is more of a parts ratio than time. And even it is variable. I think the "1" part should probably not be more than 30 minutes max. But experiment for...

    Maverick ET-73 update

My original set of batteries has about 26 hours of cook time on them so far. Mine has also seemed to "stick" on a temp for a few moments a couple of times. One time was when I went out of range. The other was after the receiver had been sitting for 30+ minutes; after I picked it up, it corrected...

    Maverick ET-73 update

I used mine virtually for 2 days straight last weekend. The first cook was my 3 brisket smoke for 16 hours. All went well. The second cook was in a big (6x8) grill, cooking 90lbs of spares. I used both probes as cook chamber temp guides. Again, everything went without a hitch. It rained for...

Do Not Use Polder Probes In Smoker

I recently bought the Maverick dual probe thermometer, and talked my buddy into getting one too. He tried his in his gas grill (1st ever use) and it broke. He emailed Maverick, and here is part of his email to me: CAUTION, Do not use the probes in the grill, I did, OOPSIE. The probes can...

2nd Degree Burns - Am I the only one? (Long)

I burned and blistered 3 fingers just before my first smoke. Was trying to dry out some brown sugar for my rub in the toaster oven, went to check the consistency of it between my fingers, and it melted and stuck to them.
