    rib foiling qustion

If your WSM is still hot, why crank up an oven? Good question about lumping them all together in a foil pan and covering. I've considered that, mostly for convenience, but never tried it. I wouldn't think you would want to poke holes in the foil, though.

Sand in water pan, has smell?

I used "play sand" for awhile. It supposedly has been washed and dried, so as to be safe for "play", in a sandbox, I presume. However, no matter how many layers of foil I used, even with extra heavy duty, I always seemed to get grease dripping thru into the sand. While the grease probably...

Foiling butt at 170 for how long?

Davidd--I have never foiled a butt. An excellent source on here told me to pull it at 170 if you intend to slice it or 190 if you plan to pull it. I would think these temps would apply with or without foil--the foil should just make it get to the higher temp quicker. Just my humble opinion...

    Tear Jerker's *****

    1. A very obscure one written by Rod McKuen and recorded by The Anita Kerr Singers called "Who Has Touched The Sky". 2. This version of "Amazing Grace" that someone recently sent me--turn on your speakers and hold on to your seat at about the three minute mark...

    FoodSaver Overload

And--Seal-a-Meal and Foodsaver are owned by the same parent company so I wonder if they use the same parts. I think I am going to recommend the V2440 to my family member. It has the wider sealing strip, doesn't have all the bells and whistles for potential problems, and I think the ones that...

    FoodSaver Overload

Steve--After further research I've found out: The model V3420 from Walmart does not appear to have the extra-wide sealing strip--which you definitely would want. Customer reviews on the Costco model V3840 are not exactly gleaming. They say this model uses excess bag material among other...

    FoodSaver Overload

Steve--we currently use a model V2480 which we have had 2-3 years. It has been OK but seems to "get tired" when you seal alot, but I can't justify replacing it right now. I am looking at the Foodsavers for a family member right now. In the price range that they want to spend, it appears that...

    Meat Slicer

That is NEAT, Rita. Jeff must come from a long, long, long, long line of sharpening people! Thanks for the info. I might have a place located nearby, but I'll keep Mr. Edges in mind as I have a friend who frequently comes to Atlanta.

    Meat Slicer

I bought a Rival Slicer model 1030V back in the '80s (long before I got into smoking meat) for around $100, stupidly believing that it would last a lifetime. Now the blade is dull--don't know how it can be sharpened--and replacement parts for it seem impossible to find except for buying the...

    Sourwood Honey.

Chuck--I think you will enjoy the Tupelo honey from the Lainiers, located in what we call "Wewa", a small town about 50 miles from me on the Apalachicola River. I believe that area is one of the few places that the Tupelo tree is found. I hope you saw the note on their site about them...

Cleaning Ceramic Rods on Knife Sharpener

I have a Steamboat brand knife sharpener that has two ceramic rods. It is very similar to the Lansky Crock Stick Sharpener. Can anyone tell me how to clean the rods other than soap and water? Lansky sells an Eraser Block for that purpose, but the S&H is a good bit more than the price of the...

    Hold Butt Without Pulling?

I have let one or two cool before pulling. Best I recall, I let them approach room temp., pulled apart the sections, cut them up into chunks 2-3" long, then pulled it with little problem. The general consensus of the eaters was that they were plenty juicy when heated up.

    Help Help Help!!!! Please

When they get to the desired temperature I pull mine and foil them. I take newspaper and line the bottom of an ice chest with flat pieces(to catch spillage-easier clean-up). Then I wad up more newspaper and place on the bottom. Then put the foiled butts in and wad up more newspaper and pack...
