Natural gas to propane conversion ?

I converted an older Weber (Genesis 2000? has 3 burners and a side burner) from NG to propane and the parts from Weber cost about $130. The grill was free on craigslist and had fairly new stainless flavorizers, grills and burners/tubes so I was happy with the total cost.

Recommend a Good GE Dishwasher / Recall

Interesting how perceptions differ. I put in a GE Profile in our last house and we loved it. It was fairly quiet, did a great job cleaning everything and easily held all our dishes. I think I paid about $350 for it new. The new house has a fancy Kitchen Aid that the previous owner paid $1200...

Any good recomendations for a vacuum sealer?

This link from foodsaver shows their suggested storage times for meat products: http://www.foodsaver.com/PDF/FSRefGuideCompv2.pdf beef, pork, lamb 2-3 years ground meat 1 year poultry 2-3 years fish 2 years I bought a refurb Foodsaver V825 off of ebay for about $40 shipped and it's worked...

    Keurig coffee maker

I've used them at work (the "commercial" version). It makes sense for a work environment where everyone can get a different flavor/type of coffee. Also, the "pot" is always fresh since you're making it on demand. However, I never could find a coffee flavor that I actually liked (and we had...

    Sears Smoker?

I just saw this in Sears today. It's taller than 17" inches (probably closer to WSM height). I'm guessing it's a 17" diameter grill surface. 3 vents on the bottom (4 holes/vent). Thermometer mounted in the lid. Handles on the center section(s). Hinged door. Seemed like someone built a WSM...

    No Charcoal, oh oh

Not quite so easy. Up here, most places don't stock charcoal for the winter. My Walmart, Home Depot, KMart, grocery stores, etc. are all out. This is my first season smoking so it never occurred to me to stock up before the cold weather came. Any place local that has it won't be re-ordering...

Genisis Silver B changes next yr

I was in a local hardware store the other day (TrueValue?) and the salesman was telling an elderly couple that the Weber gas grill they sold was better than the Home Depot one because it used slightly thicker metal for all its parts. I was rather skeptical, but kept my mouth shut since I was...

Ever wonder how good your Q really is?

The other thing to remember is that when you cook for yourself, you make the food the way YOU like it. You said the sauce you received was apple based, but maybe you like a vinegar based sauce, etc. For example, I've only done 3 rib cooks, but I've already modified the BRITU to suit my tastes.

    Food Saver

Highly recommended. I figure if I'm smoking one pork butt I might as well do two, or four. If I'm doing one cryopack of ribs, I might as well do two. The extras get shrinkwrapped and frozen. The packages can be boiled in water to reheat or microwaved. Also good to buy food (hamburger...

Looking for pork in all the wrong places

BJs didn't have the pork butts. However, I found boneless pork butts at Shoprite in Croton for $1.99/lb -- they had it behind the counter. Figured since it was boneless and looked like most of the outside fat was trimmed off it wasn't too pricey compared to the $0.99 picnic butts.

Looking for pork in all the wrong places

Bringing this back to the top.. Is this the BJs in Yorktown? I've seen Picnics there but when I asked about Pork Butt they said no (though that was the person stocking the meat and I don't know if he really understood what I was asking for). FWIW, someone else there asked for Brisket and he...

    My "WSM de Luxe"

Note that Don Marco added "smokey joe platinum" vents to the side of his so it should work well for long cooks, much like the WSM. However, if you don't add some sort of side vent and rely on the "cleaner" vents at the bottom then it will probably not work as well for long cooks since the vents...

    My "WSM de Luxe"

Won't the ashes eventually clog the bottom vents and lower your temperatures? I wouldn't expect it to maintain a consistent temp on a long cook. If you look at the original poster, he added side vents (from a smokey joe platinum) further up the base to allow for constant air flow that won't...
