    Whomper Damper

Well, brazing went faster than I'd imagined it might so I went ahead and cut the draft tube to length, drilled out the draft hole for the BGE side of the damper and roughed in the notches in the bottom that hold the servo assembly. I need to put the other hole on the opposite side of the valve...

    Whomper Damper

Bryan, thanks for checking in on my cook. I was wondering if you got to see that or not while it was live. I just saw your snapshot post so I'll certainly load that soon. Funny how folks remember that goofy movie. I did get a little work done this week on my damper. I had to make a tubing...

    Whomper Damper

Andy, thank you. It's not 100% done because I always intended for the top to be either poured concrete or granite but had to settle with wood for now because again, the budget on the project was stretched already. What's really cool is that each of the drawers that hold stones or grates also...

    Whomper Damper

Guys, thanks again to all of you that have worked on the HM project and I wanted to share a little about what I've been working on too. I've got zero talent when it comes to electrical/software stuff like you guys have but I certainly an capable in other disciplines. This is the BGE stand I...

Request: STEP File for BFB0612H Fan

Does anyone have the model for the stock HM fan in STEP format? I'd sure appreciate it if you could post it up. I found the MG90S on GrabCad but couldn't find the fan. Thanks!

    PID settings are funky today

I've got a cook that I put on last night around 10pm. I left the PID settings roughly the same as the last time I cooked and everything was looking ok but the it was strange that I never really got to 225 and stayed steady around 220-223 on my large BGE w/ Tom's Barrel Damper. So, I started...

Latest Software: LinkMeter v12 and firmware

Have you guys seen a scenario where the set temperature changes automatically without asking it to? This is my graph: The last cook I did last weekend was a pork butt and it wasn't going to be done in time so I ramped to to 275 so that I'd get it done faster via the HM web interface. Today...

Pebble App: Something else to maintain why not?

Yep, the pebble will always be my first smart watch love just because of that. While I love my trophy smart watch, I'd wait for the next one if it was my $160. Rumor is that they had the processors laying around from a failed handset launch so they used the power hungry little monsters in the...

Pebble App: Something else to maintain why not?

I can barely get through cooking steaks for dinner at 600 degrees with my 360 before the battery shuts down since it's already low by dinner time. An Android Wear app would be cool though. Bryan, I did install the Pebble App last night and can report that it is working fine on my Pebble too...

Pebble App: Something else to maintain why not?

Very cool! I have a Pebble that has been relegated to "shop watch" because I upgraded to the Motorola 360 as my daily watch but really love seeing who's calling if I'm working on something and don't want to run over to the phone to see who it is. I wish I would have checked this forum last...

I've got friends in from the continent of Australia and put a brisket on last night. Things started off wonky w/ my servo damper and I kept changing the PID parameters without a lot of success. Finally, I figured that maybe I needed to open the top a bit more and all I did was spin it a tiny...

    Damper Versus Fan

Facepalm. Ok. I get it now. Now I see where Ralph was with that other option that he was talking about with ramping the fan. I'm not saying that I think it's a needed feature or not, but I get where he's coming from. I need to go back and re-read that.

    Damper Versus Fan

Ok, that makes more sense to me then, Bryan. So the answer was "D";)

    Damper Versus Fan

Right, I set it that way just to get a snapshot. But if I had it set to 50% AND "fan at max only" then I might see no bottom bar for the fan and the top bar for the servo could move anywhere from 0-100% open without having the fan kick on at all.

    Damper Versus Fan

Ralph, yes! This is what I'm getting at. If in fan at max only mode then really, the output shown in the graph isn't giving you an idea of what happened. Yes, you can sit and watch the double bar you have and know it's ok if you're in front of the computer. You can easily see the output for...

    Damper Versus Fan

Steve, no, it's set 50% max.

    Damper Versus Fan

Bryan, I realized that I'm screwing up the other thread so I thought I'd bring there here and start something we can talk about instead. I'm not sure I understand what you're telling me here. I can't understand how the curve is the same between the two if one is on and one isn't. In other...

Thanks, Ralph. I figured that's how it worked but that's certainly not what the chart displays as best I can tell from watching the fan on the HM. Maybe that will be corrected in a future version of software. It would be nice to have another indicator of how much the damper was open/closed by...

    Post your live HeaterMeter Cooks

Ralph, does this mean that the fan isn't turning on until it's at say 50% if I have the fan max set at 50% or does it mean something else? I'm configured 10% min, 50% max, 100% startup. I just toggled that setting a few minutes ago and what I appear to be seeing is "more fan" activity but I...

Antti, I've been wondering if 225 is a good temperature in the BGE at the grate. I'm assuming you have the platesetter in legs up with the grate on top right? I've noticed something similar with my BGE since going to the HM. It seems that 225 isn't hot enough if measured at the grate and I...
