    Early Turkey

My wife pulled our 18 lb turkey from the freezer late last week to thaw in the fridge. She checked it Monday afternoon to see how it was doing and she became concerned that it had already thawed completely (after opening the turkey we saw that it was just thawed and could have waited another...

Where we stand on the smokefire

I'm an early adopter, and I've made the hardware and software upgrades. The roll out wasn't as smooth as it could have been but I can honestly say that I every single cook I've done has turned out great food. It has become my primary device, simply for the ease of use. For example, I started...

    Smoke Boost

I did a batch of beef jerky using only Smoke Boost. Honestly, I'm not even sure what temp it ran but it was lower than a cook and the jerky dried out with amazing smoke flavor.

New Weber App out for iOS

Since I've been back from my trip, I haven't had a chance to try out the new features. I did update the SmokeFire today. I also found the following on Weber's site. It provides some good info on the update. https://consumer-care.weber.com/hc/en-us/sections/360008827971-New-Features

New Weber App out for iOS

I see that there’s a new version of the Weber app out. Says it will add remote temp control and a smoke boost. I’m hitting the road early tomorrow so I won’t be able to try it until late next week. Looking forward to hearing others results.

    SmokeFire Pizza

Made up a batch of pizza dough and some sauce yesterday. Got home from a round of golf today and fired up the SmokeFire. A nice way to wind down from the 8.5 mile walk.

Took a small break from the forum but not the pits

I haven't been on here in a week or so. Not for any particular reason, just busy with other stuff. On Saturday I did some beef back ribs on the SmokeFire, which turned out very tasty. The forecast on Tuesday was for temps in the upper 60s and dry, but of course they got that wrong and it...

Did a brisket flat on the SmokeFire

I picked up a brisket flat last week when I had to swing by Wegmans. It was only 7 lbs and USDA Choice, but I had to take what they had. I got up and started the pellet at 5 am with a full hopper of Hickory pellets. I seasoned the brisket with 50/50 kosher salt and coarse black pepper. Put...

    New Welded Chute

The holes in the chute seemed too small so I pulled the chute back out and put the screws in outside the hopper first, just to widen them enough. Then I removed them and replaced the chute. Much easier that way, especially in the tight working area.

Reverse seared pork chops on the SF

I reverse seared some 1.5" boneless pork chops on the SmokeFire this afternoon. Paired with homemade mac and cheese and green beans cooked with some of last week's ham. Pretty tasty.

    Pellets

I've used Traeger and Weber pellets. They both work but personally I think the Weber pellets work better. I have had less tunneling with the smaller pellets. I can't speak about other brands. Any should work but you might need to keep a closer eye on things with other brands.

    New Welded Chute

I installed my new welded chute this morning. The only problem I had was replacing the auger and getting the cotter pin out. Everything else went smoothly. After I finished I fired it up to be sure everything was working and so far so good. I now have two extra chutes (old design), two extra...

    New Welded Chute

Weber contacted me yesterday and said that they had to canceled my initial order for the welded chute. But they immediately entered a replacement order. That arrived today. I like the look of it. I can't install it today because there's a 30 mph wind blowing and I'd lose everything. But...

    Dave's Smokefire EX6 Experiences

I get the bags and immediately empty them into one of these bins. I bought one for each type of pellet that I use. The width of the hopper is about the same as the bin and I haven't spilled any. To change pellets I put it under the slide and rest a bucket on top. What doesn't go into the...

Interesting picture of future SmokeFire accessories.

I think I like that split table for the EX6.
