Using Aaron Franklin's Method for Brisket

Being inspired recently by Franklin's briskets (and everyone else here) I made my first attempt at brisket this Easter morning on a mini-wsm. 6.5lb Costco brisket, 250 temps on Kingsford competition charcoal, with bottom vents 1/2 open, top vents nearly closed, water pan full of water. Came...

Stainless Steel Flavorizer Plate for WGA gas grill

Those GrillGrates seem to be better suited for larger pieces of meat. There are some Korean dishes where the meat is so thinly sliced, they would fall through most other grates pretty easily. That's why Weber actually has a separate round grill insert for Korean style bbq. This new porcelain...

Stainless Steel Flavorizer Plate for WGA gas grill

The only benefit I see of having the new design of the gas WGA grate for 2014 is for table-top Korean BBQ, which requires a special type of grate that doesn't have too many openings, yet still allows for grease to pass through. I can see myself using that type of grate for foods like: galbi...

Moving to gas -- Genesis v. Summit? Need some advice

I have a method that makes charcoal grilling easy for me on the Weber charcoal grills: 1) Use lighter cubes and a chimney starter. One Weber lighter cube (costs ~$.15 each) will light up a chimney full of charcoal and have my coals ready in 10 minutes or so. Just light it up and forget about...

Flavorizer Bars…Do They Really Make a Difference You Can Taste?

The Q's cast iron grill grate has sear areas over the burner tubes that prevent flare ups. I've never had any issues with flare ups on my Q. Compared to almost all other gas grills, Weber has the distinction of having their Flavorizer bars at a much sharper angle. I know they must have some...

    KBB 200lbs. for $42 at Lowes.com!

I had bought my 200lbs last week when they went on sale for ~$10 per 2 pack. Then, I just picked up 200lbs more for even less. It's gonna be a good summer.

    How can I clean this?

Hot water, dish soap, big bucket submerged for about 30 min. Scrubbed with non abrasive scouring pad. Power wash with garden hose. Make sure you get all the crud out. Hang dry overnight.

    How can I clean this?

I did the whole soapy water soak, poked the holes with a push pin, etc. on my Q200, and it worked just as new. Just make sure you don't bust open the holes any wider than they should be. If they are brittle with rust (which I doubt), then i wouldn't touch them at all. Nowadays, I just scrub...

    Kingsford question about storing

What about stacking them on top of each other? I care about those poor bags on the bottom, under the weight of 5 other bags on top of them, nearly crushing those briquettes into fine dust. Anyone notice this happening at all to their, um, stockpiles?

    Kingsford Blue vs. Kingsford Competition

I just posted a similar observation recently. I guess it boils down to what you've been accustomed to. I had been using my 18lb bag of Kingsford Competition (from that Costco sale) this past month and have appreciated its low ash production. But it wasn't until I bought stockpiles of the blue...

Anyone know of a good griddle for the Q200?

I'd like to use the Q200 for making bacon, pancakes, hash browns, etc. I saw the Weber ones online but I think they are pricey/discontinued. Does anyone use a 3rd party griddle that is large enough to fit the whole area of the Q grill?

Now I like the Competition charcoal better

Don't get me wrong; I bought 200lbs of the KBB at Lowe's this week, and am happy to get my charcoal at $.25/lb. on these ridiculous sales. But next time Costco has Kingsford Competition on sale, I'm stocking up again!

Now I like the Competition charcoal better

I had been waiting all this time to get KBB bags on sale at Lowe's (40lbs for $10!), and so in the meantime I had been using Costco's Kingsford Competition briquets. Today, I made spatchcock chicken using a fresh bag of KBB, and with one quick whiff of the smoke, I can say that I was being...

Using the Go Anywhere gas grill

Hi just picked up a new GAG off CL yesterday and have some questions: 1) How long should it take to light up? I'm using a Coleman camping canister. It seems to take about 15-30 seconds of leaving the gas on before the ignitor lights it up. 2) Is it normal for the ignitor assembly to get...
