No my original didn't have the guard so I complained and they gave me a new lid and handle with the guard. So now I have a back up lid just in case.

She's a beauty! You are going to love it. How do you like that new bolt on handle? I had Weber send me out a replacement lid and it came with the bolt on handle. Kind of weird but it seems sturdy.

Mine was the same exact way. I am telling you this new model is a night and day difference. I can go anywhere in my house and it works great. Plus it beeps if it loses signal which has only happened when I walked down the street. I use it almost daily now while my ET-73 sits in the drawer...

That is pretty cool. Hopefully it is a sign that some new colors are coming to the U.S. I am thinking about buying it just to support the cause. At least that is what I will tell my wife but the real reason is because it is copper.

Love it! I used my performer daily but now I am using the 26er for the extra room and just lighting coals on the performer. I cook for a family of 4 and it is nice to have the extra room sometimes on large cooks.

I don't think it would matter at all as long as the galvanized stuff is just as rigid as the normal steel.

It seems like steel to me but I could be wrong since I have never seen a brand new one. Isn't galvanized much weaker than steel?

Well one thing that kinda stinks is that the new probes are larger and don't fit through my bbq guru probe holes. I have been using the thermometer all day on my pepper stout beef and the extra range has been great. So far so good...

Yeah, you could use this. You may need to use a dremel and cut slits into your current grill to accept this. I am in the process of doing it to my redhead. I will take pics along the way. Looks pretty easy though.
