    Pit Probe Placement

Thanks Vincent. I appreciate everyone's input. Can't wait to fire this thing up tomorrow. I know I'm going to have to get a fan, probe and adapter for the other WSM as it will be jealous of the other one.

    Stokerlog Version 6

Amir that is correct. I get no GUI. I see that the stokerlog.exe process runs in Task Manager for ~10-20 seconds and then closes. I turned off User Access Control to see if that had any bearing and it did not.

    Stokerlog Version 6

Ok kids I setup my new Stoker tonight and connected to it's internal web server just fine. So I thought I'd try the Stokerlog. I installed 6.7 with no errors. I set it to run as administrator in the Compatibility tab and ran the Stokerlog.exe. I get nothing. I see that for about 10 seconds...

    Pit Probe Placement

@Curt I had an ah-ha moment when you described it. Cool air sinks and that meat was cooler than the rest of the air so it would naturally sink and make my readings cooler. I hope to get enough tests in before our next comp that I'm comfortable with it. I'm thinking it's time to get a couple...

    Pit Probe Placement

So I have a new Stoker system sitting on the shelf in my garage ready to use this weekend. I'm pretty confident in the setup except for the placement of the pit probe. I had a comp last weekend and used my ET-73s which worked great...until I put the meat on. Then the temps were off about 30°...

    A lesson learned

Thanks Pat. I'm typically hard on myself. That's how I roll. On the bright side, we're all pumped for the next comp and ready to put this behind us. I guess by me posting this flub, I hope to actually learn from it myself. If someone else learns from it then that's a good thing too. The...

    A lesson learned

I agree Russ. Good luck Jeremy you'll do just fine! The second guessing is natural. Hopefully you'll have someone else there to help keep you grounded. I talked to my team last night and we've all made the agreement to keep each other on track at the next comp. We'll see how that goes...

    Jeffersonville Indiana 6/17-18th

Jeff there are quite a few here in Indiana. The next KCBS competition is in New Palestine on July 29th. It's a good time. Come out and say hi.

    A lesson learned

We competed in our 2nd KCBS competition last weekend at Smoke on the Square in Franklin, IN. While we had a great time, I single-handedly ruined our chances at a walk. Beer you say? Too much partying? Nope. I thought I was Harry Soo Trigg Tuffy Mixon. Or at least I thought I had to cook...

    so why Kingsford blue??

I just used the Blue because that's what I've always used. Then I did a grilling competition here in Indianapolis 2 weeks ago and the guest judge was the executive chef from the Weber Grill restaurant. He stopped by and talked with the guys I was with and I asked him this very question. He...

    any tips/advice on first comp?

Our 2nd sanctioned comp is coming up next week and I will be taking weights for our EZ Ups, more dry coolers than I think I need (to store warm meat) and a propane burner to heat water, etc. The one thing I will do different this time is to follow my timeline (not just bring it). I'm also...

WSM Clay Pot Base Mod Question - Temp variances

I'll move it to the middle for the next smoke and see what I get. For home use, I'll stick with the lid temp, but for comp, I'd like to have something a little more consistent. What I am struggling with is getting to the bottom rack to spritz effectively with this probe attached to the grate...

WSM Clay Pot Base Mod Question - Temp variances

Thanks Lew, You're dead on. My probe for the ET-73 was only about an inch away from the sides. Where do you usually have yours located? In the middle of the grate?

WSM Clay Pot Base Mod Question - Temp variances

I did an awesome smoke this weekend (not many pics so I guess it wasn't that awesome!). I tried doing the clay pot base mod and for the most part I was happy with it. However I noticed something strange. Most of the time the WSM therm and my ET-73 were dead on. When I started losing temp...
