    Joining the fun

I finally got to fire up my EX4 today. I put it together a couple of days ago, but because of weather I didn't really have a chance to even do a burn off until tonight. It was 44 degrees outside and windy. The unit got up to 475 in about 13 minutes. I kept it going for about an hour and then...

I wonder why it is only Hickory that is on sale. Maybe they are re-formulating them? Regardless of the reason, I have 5 bags so far. Thankful for the sale. But the covers are on clearance as well at Lowes, so not sure what it going on. Might be just a matter of them having too much stock of...

Timing turned out well on all fronts. Surprise bonus, cover on sale, pellets on sale, gen 2 $200 off. A perfect storm for me.

    Joining the fun

I ordered my SmokeFire EX4 today. We got an unexpected bonus at work and instead of saving all of it for a rainy day, I put a portion towards a new grill. The fact that people here are alot more positive about it than at launch and this is the gen 2 with all the upgrades made me take the...

    Update on the SmokeFire problems

I have been following the progress on reddit, social media and other boards. Definitely not as much negativity going on and we are getting more stories of people who are happy with it. But it seems to be alot of inconsistent experiences still. People who had issues got replacement parts and...

    SmokeFire issues on YouTube.

An interview with Kevin Kolman. Asked the tough questions, but responded with alot of spin. The bottom line he hit on a few times is that Weber is still learning about the grill and have planned updates. One thing that he kept doing was kind of blaming users for issues but then saying, "in a...

But that is how these companies get reviews on YouTube. They give out product. Now it is up to the influencer to have integrity or not, but getting a free product doesn't automatically make the reviews tainted. Greg Lampe gets free stuff all the time, but his reviews are legit. He will give...

    Cord Cutters - - - -

I cut the cord a few years ago. Probably like 5 years ago. I was paying over $250/month for DirecTV alone, not including internet. I started with Sling, which had terrible performance. Switched to DirecTVNow which had terrible performance, then did Vue for awhile until YouTubeTV came out. I...

It’s SmokeFAIL official... the UPDATE! Weber refunded my money and is picking up the EX6.

That was one of the things Weber said wouldn't happen. They specifically said that other pellet cookers had ash all over the food, but the SmokeFire wouldn't. What you are seeing in alot of the backlash is people reacting to Weber's claims versus reality. You have to look at all of the...

2 cooks this weekend to decide keep it or return it.

I am being sucked back in, lol. Question, when cooking something quick, like burgers or something, can you use a drip pan then as well? If not, how involved is cleanup?

Tom has been a complete skeptic of the design from day one. He hasn't been mean about it, just was honest in his thought that the design was flawed and some of the claims were untrue. Those are some good ideas in this video, I just don't know if Weber is going to actually implement any updates...

Kevin said there will be updates to the design? If so, I'll just hold up on buying anything until that happens. Secondly, I am amazed at how upset people are getting about the SF. There are definitely issues out there, Weber has even changed how they want the users to do (drip pans). But...

    SmokeFire issues on YouTube.

I saw someone with a comment asking what is the point of the flavorizer bars if we are supposed to use the drip pans now. That is a damned good point. They hyped up those bars for months, now I guess they aren't so important. Also, by not mentioning the pans will help prevent grease fires...

Dave's Camp Chef Woodwind 36 WIFI Experiences

Looking forward to your thoughts on this. I have to get the 24 wifi.

IMO, they are going about it the wrong way. Unless they are going to scrub the internet of all the previous claims, putting out contradictory claims now does nothing but send a mixed message. More importantly, it really makes people wonder why they should buy a SmokeFire instead of another...

Here is a video from the BBQ Guys that tells you everything you need to do for a good SmokeFire experience. So they could put this together, but Weber couldn't? Interesting that they recommend not using an extension cord. They also say you should clean after every cook.

    Dave's Smokefire EX6 Experiences

Nice. I am planning on getting the Woodwind 24 Wifi soon. Actually, if I can find a wifi controller that fits the ZGrill, I might try that one.

I think that if the return rate is anything close to what I think it is, retailers will start to steer customers away from the SmokeFire. I saw a video last night from a store who actually is selling the SmokeFire and listed all the reasons you shouldn't buy it right now. I think Chris said his...

    SmokeFire issues on YouTube.

I just watched it. The short version of the video is that since he had no problems with the cooks on this grill on that day, he feels all of the problems are user error. The only thing he said was an issue was the pellet feed. If he is trying to protect Weber, it really is the wrong message...
