SJ Char grate to food grate distance

You're a gentleman - just what I wanted to know. I came to work today with a ruler, ready to call in to a garden centre on the way home on the chance of getting a measurement. That extra inch is pretty appealing.

    Tried Grilled Bananas?

We leave them on longer so they fluff up or the skin splits and the innards start bubbling out. Beware though - that flesh is like magma and the kids are eager to get into it. I second the dark rum comment. (they're good fried with a little rum too, but peel them first in this case)

SJ Char grate to food grate distance

I've just done some quick grate gap measurements, you'll see my point: Go-Anywhere 2.75" Performer (22), 5" almost double the WGA Medium BGE 8.75" (I usually cook higher but the charcoal is deeper than in a kettle). Interestingly this is kind of why I originally got my WSM.

SJ Char grate to food grate distance

When I say hardly used - I picked it up on ebay for .99 - it's far from new! I love the portability but I think it is at the expense of the cooking grate clearance. I believe the SJ has better grate to grate gap and wanted to check. I just want something to pop in the boat with the kids to cook...

SJ Char grate to food grate distance

Hi I have a hardly used go-anywhere. I became frustrated at the lack of space between the charcoal grate and the food grate. This results in food getting burnt unles I keep moving it around I'm thinking of a Smokey Joe as I believe they have a greater distance. Can anyone measure the grate to...

    Steven Raichlen accessories/books?

The How to Grill book is handy, albeit a bit repetitive on the "setup your grill for direct (or indirect) heat...." on every recipe. I love the flat skewers - the ones that are six to a pack - because they are big enough for a kettle grill or a campfire and wide enough to prevent food spinning...

Source of Pork ribs in Scotland?

Baby backs are hard to get here. I used to be able to get them when I lived near Ludlow (England), but only from one of the seven butchers in that (small) town! I think the problem is the way the carcass is divided up, from memory I think it was the way bacon was made. Spares are another matter...

Remember to clean the grease funnel occasionally

I've been mainly using the Genesis Silver for bacon, sausages and the like for us and the kids. I just boned out a few thighs for a quick lunch, dusted them and slammed them on. I looked out of the window at the usual smoke from thighs - fine. Just as I went to the grill to turn them over black...

Stainless steel or cast iron grate

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Originally posted by Justin W: SS rods from the ebay guy. Require no maintenance at all (which is good because sometimes I go months where I only use charcoal), the sear is...

    DC extension lead

I was looking for an extension lead to run out of the catflap for my Guru (actually for me BGE in this instance) and found one on amazon (2.1mm Socket to DC Power Extension Lead 5m). In trying to get the right size I discovered that my Weber rotisserie usues the same 12v connector (and it has a...

Performer compatibility with the Weber Kettle Rotisserie

It's never bothered me - in fact I don't recall noticing - I'll have a closer look next time.

    Dilemma time!

Have you considered offering him a straight swap - low mileage kettle for old performer? I love mine, just wish the lid had a hook instead of the "slide aside" affair.

    silver B rehab

fwiw I found some truly excellent stainless grates for my gen B on ebay. Not orig weber but solid stainless & really heavy. Very happy. My PCI grates got chipped and I always felt a little unhappy about them - I don't use the grill that much so the zero maintenance of the stainless is worth it...

    UDT= Ugly Drum Tandoor

I love this project. Almost like an UD Egg/Kamado. My Grandparents used to travel in India (pre partition) and apparently the first job when setting up camp was to build an earth/clay oven. I used to live on clay and kept meaning to try a pizza oven from the ground, now I live on peat/rock so no...

    What's your favorite coffee maker?

Old thread by now but.... Technicorm at my old work ( tempted to take it with me when I went ) nobody appreciated it but it made certain meetings tolerable. Aeropress **** handy, I have one at home and one at work, thought the newer clear one seems to have developed some crazing that makes me...

    Digi-Q mounting ideas?

Hi I was searching for something else and came across your post. I haven't mounted my Digi-Q - have you considered screwing it onto a leg? This is what I am thinking of, rather than just leaving it on the ground, so it is more upright and better covered by a poly bag when it is raining. Another...

    European Grills

I mentioned in another thread that the European grills all seem to have handles that are bolted on with a heat shield affair rather than the welded on ones that I'm used to. I was wondering whether this was because they were made somewhere else.

Baskets I've hardly used. Rails I used to use a lot. Now I'm just lazy.....

    Question about Stainless Grates.

I'm disappointed - I was waiting for the stainless grates to reach the UK so I could have a stainless grate for my (18.5) WSM main grate and hence put it in the dishwasher. It's not an issue with my grill but I like to get my WSM very clean between smokes because of the lower temps(also a 22.5"...

Replacing stainless steel door on Performer with butcher block

I bought a section of worktop (pronomen from Ikea here in the UK) that was made out of Beech staves. I hollowed out a recess for the trapdoor handle and figured I'd use it as a tray to fit over the trapdoor. My plan was to go like this - set the chimney going, go inside and get all the bits...
