Any Actually Try Silicon Sealer Gasket?

If the door is the problem, you can achieve a better seal by bending the top of the door to a smaller radius than the middle section, then when you close and latch the door it will have to "mold" to the shape of the middle section. Over time, it will fit very nicely.

    Silicon Sealer Mess!

Another option is to apply the silicone, let it harden and adhere to both surfaces, then use an exacto knife or razor blade to cut through the silicone creating a seam.

    Tri-tip question

I cook em' on my WSM wide open without the water pan (which is about 375-400 degrees) for about 20 minutes per side. I leave it out on the counter to warm for about an hour. I cook to 130-135 then let it sit covered loosely with foil for about 15 minutes. I've done the same on my gasser at...

Does Use of an ATC affect top vent position?

Ray, You know the saying "It's better to be lucky than good." That's pretty much what happened when I ended up with a two degree overshoot. I attribute part of that to my design but the lucky part goes to the fan I selected from my parts bin. I'll take lucky any day. Just wish it would be one...

    Awesome, Inexpensive DIY ATC

Here's my wiring diagram: Sorry about the rough sketch. As you'll see, the voltage is supplied directly to the fan (through a switch) and not from the PID controller. The PID opens and closes the ground circuit in my setup. This switch is what allows me to turn off the fan when I raise...

Does Use of an ATC affect top vent position?

I have a DIY controller and I leave the top vent open 100%. I only get one to two degrees overshoot. I would think the reason the vent has to be closed is due to air leakage at the fan or using a fan that is too powerful IMHO.

    Auber Queston

Out of curiosity: Why would you have to close down the top vent to maintain the temp? Does the fan allow air through when not running? Do you get an overshoot as the controller brings the temp up?

Neil, Sorry so long getting back. Jeff's answers are pretty well dead on but here's the links to what I used: PID Controller Thermocouple Panel Mount Connector Regarding the SSR. I spoke with Auber regarding this when I received the PID controller. You DO NOT need an SSR for this PID...

Got a freezer full of venison... now what?

I've been hunting deer and eating venison for a long time. By far the best cut of meat is the tenderloin. We take a whole loin and slice it in about 1/2" slices. Soak it in milk and egg mixture for a short time, maybe a couple of minutes, then bread em' with crushed up crackers. Fry em' in...

Aubers Temperature Controller for Charcoal Smoker

Bravo! Many times the lower tech solution is neglected even though it turns out to be a better one. Have you tried different sized fans? I suspect you should be able to use a much smaller fan. How about windy conditions, does this cause a problem? Curt </div></BLOCKQUOTE> Curt, The fan I...

    My DIY Probe Holder

Have you ever used a tube of caulk, capped it off and put it away, and then went back to use it a couple of weeks later only to find that it had hardened? Well, that's where my idea for a probe holder came from. I use a Maverick ET-73 and an automatic temperature controller so I have two smoker...

    *NEW* Maverick ET-732

Their website makes reference to "both" probe wires being resistant to temp up to 716 degrees and with the dual display i'd say its a safe bet that it has two probes, even though the pit probe isn't shown in the picture.
