As you probably know briquettes contain starch and lime..just starch in the case of rancher..this constitutes the majority of ash..use lump which has virtually no ash

I live in the city and lump is preferable to charcoal because dont have to clean ashes out of my grill nearly as often

In my opinion Royal Oak is the best mass producer of lump in the world..just wish my local costco would start carrying it

unfortunately the kirkland lump wasnt in many stores..ive been pushing my costco to get it

Well you have to understand that Rancher was a one time deal..it was surplus a south american company had stockpiled and could not get rid of..there probably will not be another deal like that one

Here is one thing to consider..when I got my new kettle the lid was slightly warped so it didnt seal good. Thus I had too much ventilation making coals hot..just one thing to consider

Chad the kingsford lump is imported from south america and seems to spark more than the royal oak lump...the royal oak lump made for BGE is Missouri hardwood

I have used RO and sams choice with success..like the fact that sams choice is a larger briquet
