Is the Ranch Kettle as Easy to Smoke With as the WSM?

Steve- The Ranch Kettle is pretty rare around here and not usually a 1st purchase. I think most people get a WSM and then get a Ranch. This is probably why you have received no responses. I do not have a Ranch nor a WSM, but I have done long cooks on my Performer. I think the Ranch big...

    99 Weber Performer

Welcome - I think in one post, you have the envy of pretty much 75% of this board with those finds. That is a really good price for all three grills. I would ask the wife now to look for a WSM (Weber smokey mountain) aka the bullet, since she is so good at finding grills!

    New Performer as a gift!!

Chuck- That is a great present! This reminds me that my wife got me my 22 OTG for a wedding present. This is the gift that keeps on giving. I think you wife will really appreciate it. Welcome to the board.

Jumbo Joe - 1st grill experience

Yes, 18" is almost too perfect for 2 people. I am tempted to get somebody to trade my 22 OTG for an 18" OTG. However the grill was a wedding present so I think I better keep it!

Jumbo Joe - 1st grill experience

Sorry, I forgot to take pictures! Recently I purchased a Jumbo Joe in Florida, for $10. I "smuggled" it up to NJ in a suitcase (purchased for 2$). The best part, due to some confusion, or I liked to think the love of BBQ from the baggage handled, I was not charged the extra $25 baggage fee...

    Roadside Chicken

Well, I did roadside chicken yesterday with the "original recipe". I marinated the chicken overnight, and ate around 4:00 pm. The chicken came out a little salty for my taste. Don't get me wrong I like salty food, as in popcorn but not salty chicken. So what did I do wrong? Marinated the...

First Craigslist find of the new season

Bill - This is a great grill. I found one on craigslist for around the same price with a full size tank, hose and stand. (no cover though) Two things I can add: 1. Use aluminum foil on the drip pan so you do not have to spend lots of $ on those little pans. 2. What Phil said with the...

Thinking of the Q (220) - looking for feedback

Robert - Welcome to the board! I cook mainly on my performer. However, I just bought a used Q200 with tank hose and stand. I am very pleased with it. The size is just right for me and my wife, however I have cooked for 3 people on it. Being gas, ou can pretty much use every sq inch of...

    Slow smoked brisket

Yes, but it is in the marinade. So not all of it will be going on the meat.

    Garlic soup

I made this recently without the cream and with less butter. (Milk gives me congestion) Turned out very good. It was thin, but I guess I could add more potates. Bob

Got a freezer full of venison... now what?

Tom, you could give me some meat... well I had to resurrect this thread. I can't see all that venison going to waste. Kyle - venison does well when cooked with moist heat. What I would do is to smoke the roast in pan on a rack with some liquids- soup, or just water with some onions garlic...

    SCORE !

Tim - Thanks for the link. I will plan on doing this mod. Not sure why they changed the design. On the trip home, I checked my bags at the curb. However, the bag was overweight and I had to rearrange some luggage. In the confusion of the overweight bag, I was never charged for the checked...
