    Smokey Joe Yakiniku Table

I had absolutely zero welding skills when I picked up an el cheapo Harbor Freight 80 amp stick welder. I had to fix gate hinges and wrought iron fences around the house. Since then I've worked on a number of small welding projects, including my 36" long yakitori grill.

    Smokey Joe Yakiniku Table

I welded the collar to the table this morning. I just need to grind off the bits of expanded metal and the SJ will drop in real snugly.

Press Release: Weber Launches New Charcoal Briquettes For 2017 Grilling Season

I just need anything that burns like binchotan at a more affordable price.... I will give them a try. I saw them at Home Depot the other day for $19.99.

    Smokey Joe Yakiniku Table

Well, I can't wait to get this thing finished. I'm going to add a second layer of steel ring to the collar, perhaps only 1/2 in height. That will give me extra thickness and more room to weld the expanded metal tabletop to the collar. Although this table will be out in the open patio I'm...

    Smokey Joe Yakiniku Table

Oh, and another thing I forgot to mention. I will add an expanded metal surround underneath the table around the grill bottom for safety.

    Smokey Joe Yakiniku Table

Thanks for the comments! Actually, insulation and heat transfer were the very things I thought about when I decided to use the metal table. Initially, I was going to build a wooden table from scratch, creating an air space and using ceramic insulation material between the SJ and the...

Here's an old photo with that grate on the SJ.

    Smokey Joe Yakiniku Table

I'm currently building a yakiniku (or Korean BBQ) table out of an old steel patio table and one of my Smokey Joes. I'm using the SJP only as a template for now. I will be using my standard SJ with bottom vent for the table. Somewhat hard to tell but there is a 1.5" tall steel collar ring...

Hanging ribs with no water pan

Not at all, but the ribs do come out fine and it is a fun way to cook. The drum body is set up only for hanging, with the threaded rod bolted on permanently. I only use this set up when I have to do a bunch of ribs for get togethers, usually away from home. The SJS drum smoker is compact...

Hanging ribs with no water pan

As for hooks I cut some old stainless steel skewers to length and bent them to the desired shape. I also had to modify meat hooks from Amazon as they were too long and the ribs would hang way too low.

Hanging ribs with no water pan

I've done it a few times, no barrier, no foil. The bottom ends do not get burned and they're about 4" above the coals. That's a 16 gallon drum body on a SJS.

    minion method question

I also spread a handfull of lit coals evenly across the top of unlit coals. Nothing scientific here.

Lit my Smokey Joe Gold without a chimney

I intend to do exactly that with my new GA grill on my next camping trip. I see no reason to bring the little chimney even though it can nest inside the grill for portability. I'll use that extra space to carry more charcoal in ziploc bags.

Anyone use the "Go Anywhere" Grill?

It makes sense as a wind break and I'll use it in that manner as the places we camp always seem to be breezy. I'm only going use it to grill and make cowboy coffee. :)

Anyone use the "Go Anywhere" Grill?

Just got my GA grill. I think it'll be a great travel/camp grill. BTW, what are those 2 tabs under the lid for?

Anyone use the "Go Anywhere" Grill?

I'm mainly into backpacking but I recently started car camping again with the family and g/kids and all. So, I've been taking my old SJG for the ride with all my camp gear and been finding it to be rather cumbersome as far as packing it in the back of a small SUV. So, for our next trip I...
