Happy Thanksgiving, good luck on your cooks, thanks to all for this forum

Just wanted to say.... 1. Happy Turkey Day! I'm sure there's plenty of yall out there getting your pits ready, making last preps, drying the turkey post-brine, you name it...... 2. Good luck on your cooks, don't get too drunk and ruin the bird. 3. And finally, a huge shout-out to all the folks...

2nd HM Cook with Blower Fix Went Much Better

I have a HM 4.1 w/6.5 CFM Auber blower, and have used it on both an 18" and 22" WSM. Glad to see you worked out a solution, but I can tell you right now that your issue has nothing to do with the angle, as I still to this day use no diverter or angled copper tubing. I'd have to say that you...

Auber Blower Size Recommendation for 22" WSM?

I use a 6.5cfm Auber blower on a 22 and it's more than enough to get to 375. Do NOT get a 20cfm for a WSM. You should be able to manage w/ a 10cfm.

    PitDroid 2.0

I'd love to see an updated version, and beyond that, would like to see some UI redesign/updates. I'm sure several of us would be happy to share ideas/mockups, if you'd like.

    First MOD complete!

I don't think they've really been around or people have been aware of them for long enough. I got my first one for my old 18" that I sold, back in April, and now have a month-old one on my new 22". They're made of stainless steel and the only "parts" to it is the stainless pin, so I don't see it...

Lid Hinge for the WSM in action

I tried using a center punch and had no luck. That black enamel/whatever coating on the outside is incredibly tough. The punch slipped twice on me so I just gave up and used the drill straight-up. A 1/8" pilot hole leaves a lot of room for correcting any alignment errors before using a step-bit...

Lid Hinge for the WSM in action

The hinge is an absolutely invaluable upgrade, just make sure to take your time when installing one. I highly recommend using a silver sharpie when installing it (follow directions! -- you install the top first, then the middle), and then drilling 1/8" pilot holes in the middle of each...

    Remote Access with MyFritz (FritzBox)

You do realize that the HM already has support for Dynamic DNS through a variety of FREE services worldwide, right? There's tons and tons of them. Sounds like you're trying to solve a problem that's already been solved. Do a search on these forums, there's plenty of DDNS remote access info...

Holy cow, how big is this pit/system?

New Heater Meter is online! Advice for offset smoker?

Get some tuning plates for that smoker, if you don't already have some. Read up on them -- they are invaluable to owners of standard offsets. As far as the HM itself -- you might do some searching here to see if anyone has some better-than-default settings for offsets (depending on size and fan...

    New simple and little servo

Chris, ambitious for sure. If I were you, I'd get atleast 3-5 cooks in before starting to mess with dampers and servos. That's of course assuming that on your rig, that rigging a fan up is easy and doesnt require enough time to justify putting a servo+damper in already. Get to know your...

Anyone have recommend pid settings for weber smokey mountain 18?

Ralph, once I get time to sit down and plan it all out, that's what I'm doing --- RotoDamper + airburner setup (though in a rectangular grid).

Anyone have recommend pid settings for weber smokey mountain 18?

Nope, there's no autotune, though the controller software itself is pretty smart. Once you've dialed in settings that you'd like, it runs pretty darn well. It already has some logic built-in that senses the rate of approach toward setpoint, whether approaching from too high or too low, and...

Anyone have recommend pid settings for weber smokey mountain 18?

Most people cut the fan's max output to about 50% or less. I ran an Auber 6.5CFM fan on my 18" WSM (when I still had it) and used max output 40% and it worked well. I think if you search these forums there's a post or 2 with some decent settings for WSM users in terms of the other settings. I'd...

Installed on Backwoods, Stumps, Primo, etc.?

Your imagination is the limit, really. All the models you mentioned, it's been done for. I rigged up and controlled a Tucker Cooker during Memphis in May BBQ Fest, and just used a dog bowl solution. There's pretty much nothing holding you back from rigging up a fan on practically any smoker...

Frustrated -- find a wifi adapter w/ antenna that works

Well that sucks to hear. The original adapter that this thing came with was an antenna adapter, but it must've been bent during installation. Anyway, sounds like getting another one of those is the best choice. It's an EDUP brand adapter, I believe this is the exact one unless they have multiple...

Frustrated -- find a wifi adapter w/ antenna that works

OK, so i recently purchased a Panda RT5370-based adapter and had good luck with it for running AP mode with security enabled. So I found another one, Comfast WU730A, that has an antenna port on it. The range on the Panda is horrible, and it can hardly even pick up my router at home. This new...

    Just bought my first WSM

Lateral movement on the top grate is normal, and goes away once any decent weight is put on it (ie rack of ribs). Now, if you're having issues with tilting motion (ie a bent grate), then that's easy to fix to with some elbow grease. And yes, the top grate can in fact fall in, but it's very hard...

    WSM and Burner!

Got a pic of the underside, where it comes out, with it attached?

Changing HM host port from 80 to 8080?

Nevermind, I just had an epiphany. I can take the port forwarding feature of my router and simply forward requests that come from whatever non-80 port I choose, and have them routed to port 80 of the HM. That way no config change is needed on the HM, just a quick easy-erase setting. Doh!
