Something went wrong with my trusty HM build, fan output stays on always.

Perhaps you have the servo power/output wired to the fan instead of fan power? I had an issue with a fan that while controllable, would never fully turn off. It was wired incorrectly through ethernet.

.....Aaaaaand? Was this post going somewhere?

Setting up remote access to HeaterMeter

Doesn't sound right. I can't imagine why the software on the HM itself would have any impact whatsoever on the coding of an alarm within an app that's accessing temp data remotely, unless there's some crazy process I don't know about. Sounds like the app itself is messed up, but I'm no programmer.

Setting up remote access to HeaterMeter

Yeah, setting it up through the router is going to be easiest, in my opinion, mainly because you can use the PitDroid app (or its iOS counterpart) to quickly connect to only the controller interface. This saves both time and data. In terms of setup within PitDroid and other apps, the difference...

Setting up remote access to HeaterMeter

    1. TeamViewer is free and is a top-notch remote access app. 2. Why exactly would you want to do that, versus doing it the right way and getting the HeaterMeter routed through the router's NAT/port forwarding feature + dynDNS service? Your proposed method will be harder every time. 3. I'm a...

Wifi adapter with antenna and AP support?

Does anyone have recommendations on a wifi adapter that actually has an antenna port AND works in AP mode? I swear my current adapter worked in AP mode, but I'm no longer able to get anything to connect to it. The ssid is seen, and devices try to connect, but they hang at "Obtaining IP address"...

Revisiting old topic, Heatermeter for pellet smoker.

Consider the fact that the igniter doesn't stay lit though, once the fire gets going, or at least not on my Yoder. They've stated before that it uses something like 150-200W of power on startup, and this is to get the igniter red hot, but once the fire is going, overall usage is about 50W at...

    Heatermeter 4.0 tragedy strikes! :(

I've had the luxury of having one in a weatherproof enclosure since day 1 (I bought it pre-built). The guy built 3 and sold me one of them. Only thing that isn't truly weatherproof is the probe ports, but I've never had a single issue.

The Adapt-a-Damper - Open Source Project

Will, do you mind making one for the 15cfm as well? If I can get one printed in time, I might use it for our competition. The superglue mod I performed definitely helps, as well as dialing in the servo range at the very start of a cook (versus keeping it the same all the time).

Is the HeaterMeter Right For Me?

So let's tackle a few things here: 1. You said up to TWO rings at once? As in you’re running a “tri-height” 22” WSM? Holy crap. That’s a hell of an expansion of cooking surface and therefore heating area/volume. 2. The HM is fine for pretty much all charcoal/wood-fueled pits, and the sky is...

    Way Too Hot!!

When folks are putting on a whole chimney, they're likely using significantly less unlit coals, and are turning their vents down a ton, and if they say otherwise I'd be very suspicious/doubtful. Not to mention the water pan. As everyone else has said, you're using too much coals to start, and...

Best way to get probes into WSM

I've done the slot on an old 18" and now have the grommet on my new 22". If I had to do it again, I'd go with a hole+grommet versus the slot. There's nothing wrong with the slot in terms of functionality, but the hole+grommet certainly looks cleaner and more professional.

V13 firmware servo not always closing

Well that is just plain.......odd. Have you tried adjusting the servo range slightly (and re-seating the cap if necessary) to see if a slightly different range will fix it? I can't think of anything else other than software. If I can get around to it sometime soon, I'll try to test on mine...

PID starting settings for 18" WSM

My settings for my 22 WSM (theyre the same as what i used for the 18): Bias 4 Proportional 2 Integral 0.01 Derivative 15 Agreed, a P-val of 15 is way high. Dial it back to 2 and see how things go.

Servo chatter/sporadic movements when changing %

Nah, it was def Will, in an email conversation we had outside of these forums. But I'm not surprised to see that others have the same issue. I've gotten lucky and the two I own have been flawless....so far.

    18 or 22, I'm struggling.

Welcome to the club! It's certainly not a requirement, but I'd recommend cooking a bunch of bacon on that thing for the first "break-in". It'll spread plenty of grease around and put a nice base layer on everything. I was smoking whole chickens on my 2nd cook, so don't be afraid to jump right in!

Servo chatter/sporadic movements when changing %

Ya know, now that I think about it, WBegg was mentioning to me previously that the MG90S servos sometimes are crap, so you might get a bad one. I'm not sure what the exact symptoms were though, so Will, if you see this, perhaps it's a bad servo?

Installed Handles and Latches for Center-Base

Very nice look, I'm digging the swing-down side handles instead of fixed ones. I'm about to add a pair of garage door handles to mine. Out of curiosity, do you use the latches when cooking? Reason I ask --- if someone were to knock over my WSM (such a far-fetched scenario), I'd rather let the...

Servo chatter/sporadic movements when changing %

Nah, I just need to replace my PSU because it's got some weak points in the wiring in areas I can't fix, and I accidentally melted some of it last year during a competition. I bought this HM from someone else originally and I cannot locate the PSU online. It's a 2amp so I'm of course looking for...
