    WSK: foiling deflector?

I've seen some brief mentions in a few threads about wrapping the deflector on the WSK and am a bit perplexed about how that would work. The thing has holes designed to let air through, so wouldn't that yield sub-optimal performance? And if I pushed through the foil on all the holes, then gunk...

    Hinged Diffuser for Summit E6?

Yeah man I knew I would go with a kamado but I wasn't wild about ceramic, so being a big Weber person with 4 of their cookers (kettle, WSM, smokey joe, Traveler) I figured I'd give the Summit a look. It doesn't: weigh 400+ lbs crack if the temp changes too quick crack or break entirely if...

    Hinged Diffuser for Summit E6?

Sorry, I was totally confusing there. I have a WSM22 and a 22" kettle that I'm getting rid of and replacing with a single Summit. My smoker collection is getting a bit out of hand: SSOM Red Box Smoker Mini WSM (home built with a smokey joe) WSM-22 Woods Custom Cookers large reverse flow...

    Hinged Diffuser for Summit E6?

Interesting, good to hear. Also, this would never happen on a WSM haha, it definitely ends up requiring extra chunks be added. The first poster responded that I should try before I buy, and that's what I plan on doing. If only that were true of the Summit itself lol. Anyway, thanks for the info.

    Hinged Diffuser for Summit E6?

Does anyone know if it's possible to purchase the OG hinged diffuser plate from the "1st gen" Weber Summit? I'm looking to get an E6 Summit soon and have read that one of the advantages of the OG 2016 model was the plate was hinged whereas now it's no longer hinged. That allowed you to easily...

    Summit E6: adding gas ignition?

You know, I kinda wondered how well something like that could hold up to constant ash exposure. I also have been debating getting a weedburner or similar torch.

    Summit E6: adding gas ignition?

I'm considering consolidating a WSM22 and a Kettle-22 down to just a Summit, and I see with the new Summit product refresh that the E6 model doesn't have the gas ignition. Is this something that can be added on at a later date? Thanks!

    More competition for Thermoworks

FYI those are trash. My brother bought one thinking he was getting ThermoWorks (he's new to BBQ'ing) and the probe failed him after only 1 cook. They're cheap Chinese knockoffs of better products. At least, that's my (his) experience.

    Guru UltraQ sucks #!$@

Yeah maybe an Amazon Fire tablet is worth a buy there. I'm gonna give my new pit a cook on the HM for the first time this weekend with the RD3 blower. I fully expect it to rock out like a champ as always. I just need to get the damn screen replaced and re-solder the grate probe port. For now...

    Guru UltraQ sucks #!$@

I actually am seeking out a PartyQ for my WSM. It's new tech that Guru just seems to struggle with.

    Guru UltraQ sucks #!$@

So I'd been using an HM 4.2 (corrected for interference) for a while but got tired of the wifi-only setup I had and it needs some fixes -- new screen, probe port to be resoldered, and new power adapter. Anwyay I bought a Guru UltraQ and lemme tell you -- stay away from that crap at all costs...

HM v14 seemingly running out of control?

Definitely sure, just checked and they did not change from what I screenshotted pre-upgrade. I'm also trying some diff PID settings in the mean time to see if it makes any diff. Here's the orig settings I was using (which worked fine on both RD3+22WSM as well as a 15CFMservo-blower+ large...

HM v14 seemingly running out of control?

I recently upgraded to v14 firmware (HM 4.1) and am finding that my HM is now, on occasion, overshooting and simply refusing to turn the fan output off. And I don't mean in a "I built this thing wrong" kind of way -- I'm talking software. For example, I currently have a setpoint of 250F. At...

    I've never liked the WSM!

OP, if you're looking to save fuel, consider making a new charcoal ring. See my write-up here --- https://tvwbb.com/showthread.php?63660-22-5-quot-mod-smaller-charcoal-ring. I use this ring when I'm cooking chicken or ribs, or any short cook for that matter.

Blower will not turn off, always running from boot

OP, are you sure you didn't wire in the servo power to fan on accident? I made this mistake when I first got a HeaterMeter. The fan would vary in output, but would never actually shut off.

    ~Hinged Door for WSM~

I recommend against doing that. You're just stirring ash that goes straight up to your meat. I pick the entire upper 2/3 of the WSM off the bottom, set it to the side, stir the coals a good bit, wait for the ash to subside, then place the whole thing back on. I know it's not ideal, but beats...

    Heatermeter for Pellet Grill?

I think this has been discussed before. It would take a lot of modification, mainly to the software. You have to think about how a pellet grill works ---- the auger turns to dump more pellets in, but that's not a constant movement. If it were, you'd overshoot your set temp by a mile. The HM...

Tell me I did good : Brand new Virgin WSM 18.5

No, I'll tell ya what's sad --- the seller never even gave the WSM a shot. It's one thing to give up after a first attempt, but DAMN --- didn't even try?!?!? Cmon. Shame.

    considering the Heatermeter

    1. I'm not entirely sure it matters, but I believe you should be getting a Cat5e jack (note the "e"). Also, what's the purpose of the phone jack 2.5mm? I'm guessing you don't need it but want to make sure you're not planning to use it for some other purpose. The way this works is that the...

    heatermeter v5?

Yeah I mean, the majority of the hardware stuff has been taken care of. We've got support for both regular and thermocouple probes, we've got WiFi, and we've got servo+fan output capabilities. What else could you add, hardware-wise? Maybe a color/LCD screen at best, and most folks won't care for...
