    just finished this red head

Yah, I've got one of those pans that has a hole burned in it I assume a previous owner had a grease fire. I used JB Wld to patch it but it only worked temporarily. I'm still looking for a replacement or alternate fix method. I Keep looking for a donor grill

    5 pound tank at Menards

Had to remove the bracket that supported the 5lb tank and reverse the brace on the side of the frame and it slides right in. the knob is acessabile through the control panel and it doesn’t inter fear with the coal bin. Works for me

Hey Gents! Looking for a natural looking outdoor sealer for my wood slats

I've been using Helmsman Spar Varnish for a few years now on slats and handles. I get about 2 years of protection before the sun will take its toll in dulling the finish. But its usually just the top of the side tray that's exposed to the direct noontime sun that displays the wear. I just remove...

    Weber Skyline Restored

Got one last year I was going to restore. Gave $25 to a CL seller for it. Got it home and tore it down to find some major frame rust after removing the box. So I decided to save it until I can get a doner frame from another grill. Manifold also had more rust than usual, and the control panel was...

    Jumbo Joe handle loose

Just a drop of super glue will hold it in place and give when you have to remove it. Any more than a drop and the difficulty removing increases

    Wet charcoal in performer

Wow Brian, I've had a SS performer for about 2yrs now in very humid and rainy Virginia and uncovered. I have stored the charcoal poured into the bin and use a grain scoop to move to the kettle. Ive checked the bin after heavy rain/wind storms and never had any wet coal. Needless to say I had...

Son wants to replace the wood on his redhead with Durawood

^^^^^^This!!! Use some cedar. It holds up outdoors much better than oak. Also a good SPAR urethane. Stay away from the poly for outdoors, you'll have to refinish too often. I had to touch up at about 3 years. Just hit the slats lightly with the orbital, and brushed on two more coats of the...

My second Weber restoration - Genesis 2000 Redhead

Dave is spot on, I've done several with handles like that, and while the slats were not savable the handles just needed sanding and some refinishing. Good luck on your restore. you'll have a beautiful grill.

I bought a grill to rehab

I'm with Jon on those CI grates. I just finished one with grates in similar shape. A wire brush chucked in a grinder and some re-seasoning brought them back to life nicely. u can see the results here https://tvwbb.com/showthread.php?78287-Bruce-u-da-man. Good luck with your rehab. My Daughter...

    4yr status update

Thanks Brian, The performer was a curb find and the Genny was a CL grab for $50 so I think I'm ahead in the game right now :smilekettle: Had to mod the #20 tank to the performer as it didn't have one when I found it, but it works like a champ. - - - Updated - - -

    4yr status update

Jon, I bet I’m not the only one of us that owned box store grills that only last 4 years total and that’s with several replacements of components along the way until they are no longer serviceable due to parts availability, rust etc. that’s the intriguing thing about the design of these old...

    4yr status update

Sure Ralph, the original wood looked to be redwood but it was tough to source and expensive. I have a hardwood dealer not far from the house and told him my dilemma. He steered me towards cedar or cypress as options for exterior use and had a yellow cedar plank for $8 that I ripped and cut into...

    4yr status update

It’s outside year round, but has the original ‘short skirt’ cover. Not sure how much it helps if at all, but these baby’s are built to take the elements
