LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 2

Thanks Bryan, the new snapshot let me read the resistances direct. Still no dice though. All right. I can guarantee that my probes are good and showing the right resistances. I can also guarantee that my jacks, pin headers and cables are good. I can guarantee that my HeaterMeter board can...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 2

Also setting units to 'R' doesn't seem to work for me. I can swap between F and C, but R does nothing.

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 2

New development. I found a probe from a $12.00 thermometer that died on me after 1 grill (big surprise eh?). I plugged it in and I do get a reading. That solidifies it for me. I have some kind of incompatibility with these 732's. Maybe the length is causing the issue. They're 6 footers...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 2

Yeah that's the weird thing. Even when I switch it to "R" units, I can't get a reading from the probe. I get the reading no problem with a multi-meter, but never from the HeaterMeter. I thought that meant I had a bad connection, but I checked and rechecked everything, it's all good. I know...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 2

I don't have a potentiometer, though. Oh well, one more item to get from the Shack. Oh, and what the crap Arduino? What kind of path is this: /private/var/folders/b4/064_0r5j3hg_g0k8k6jrlb300000gn/T/build1040361846416029873.tmp/heatermeter.cpp.hex That's where I ended up finding the...

Bigger sigh: the shift-register LCD stuff isn't in Bryan's git.

*sigh* Downloading the IDE. I'll give it a try.

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 2

Grumble. Bridging the ground pin and probe 1 pin with a resistor, and I get a steady temperature reading. I get good readings from the probes when they're plugged into the jacks... Probably a bad crimp job on the common pin, maybe?

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 2

Okay, rebuilt the connector, but I'm getting the exact same problem. I'm at a loss. Bridge the pins with a resistor, I get a temperature reading. Plug in the probe: nothing. If I take a reading of the probe down at the pin header connection, I get a resistance of about 1 M ohm. I know the...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 2

I have reflashed. My coefficients are set properly. When the probes were working I was getting rooom temperature back from them.

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 2

Okay, I have no idea any more. Pins on my PCB are good. My jack is good. I get readings on the heatermeter when I hook up a resistor across ground and probe 1 pins. Heatermeter tells me no Pit probe if I hook up the actual probe. Checking the reading of the probe I get 1.0 mega ohms at room...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 2

732's, but I don't plug them in too far. I can get a reading on my ohmmeter down at the pin header. I'm picking up some alligator clips from the Shack today, I'll play around some more once I can test easier.

Have to drive home from work. Won't be available to answer questions for a half hour or so. I'll check in again when I get home.

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 2

So people who've ordered from Dorkbot: how long did it take for you to receive your boards after they were shipped?

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 2

Final question to shoot out into the ether before I hit the sack: I hooked up my probes and was getting pit and probe 1 temps. It was a really flaky connection, but it was there more than not. I reset the router, untangled the probes from themselves and plugged them back in. Now I'm getting...

Speaking of... what gauge of wire are people using for these little crimp female pin thingy-mabobbers?

Hmmm... I can't find hm.hex on Bryan's site. Is it named something else, or am I just blind?

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 2

Word to the wise: CP-2506-ND from Digikey will not work as a replacement for the 2.5mm phonejacks. They're not quite long enough to make it through the wall of the WRT54G's case. *sigh* Off we go on another component hunt.
