It amazes me how you can get so many different answers from Weber customer service for the same questions. I guess it all depends on what rep you talk to and their personal experience.
Its a common problem on the newer kettles with the plastic handles. They often get very hot to the touch. Thats why so many people still prefer the wood handles...they don't get that hot. As far as the smokey joe handle not getting that hot, I'm guessing you arent getting as hot of a temp on...
Bob...been through that program twice...no luck. It doesnt help the situation that my wife pushes me to get half of the grills I already have! She likes them almost as much as me.

Have you actually put a thermomter to see what the temp goes down to when you put the lid on? It will stay a little lower when you cover it...and naturally keep the flames from flaring up. You put the charcoal in the grill already started right?

Troy...did you get the regulator yet like I said in the beginning? The one I was able to use was made by "Mr. Heater" I found it at Menards in their propane and gas fittings section which was on an endcap near the grill section. Its a low pressure regulator. It doesn't look identical...
