    Cajun Bandit (Weber Grill Mod)

First cook on the Silver Bandit: Here are my impressions as a novice. All my previous smoking has been on an ECB, and I've been so frustrated with it that I've only smoked twice in the past 2 1/2 years. I used the CB for the first time last night. Did a 4 1/2 hour smoke with...

    Light recommendations for performer

I may end up getting a camping lantern with the fluorescent bulb and using that. I can carry that to the picnic table for eating. Besides, the grill light I have now makes it hard to get the cover on my grill, and I think the neighbors would laugh at me sitting out there with a headlamp.

    Food Saver bag failure

I was making room in the freezer last night and discovered five reynolds bags that had failed. The zippers still appeared to be sealed, but air had infiltrated. I rebagged and resealed all those porterhouses, but I'm losing confidence. I had hoped that stepping up to a heat sealed foodsaver...

    Light recommendations for performer

I bought a Charmglow grill light at home depot earlier this year. I do not recommend it. The push-button on/off switch broke after less than 5 cooks. Does anyone have a recommendation for a light I can use on my Performer work table?

    Cajun Bandit (Weber Grill Mod)

I know in the photo gallery, I had a couple of little complaints, but I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea. The build quality on this thing is excellent. Heavier gauge steel than I expected, tight fit at top and bottom, etc. I carried the center section down two flights of stairs fully...

    Cajun Bandit (Weber Grill Mod)

I shall call it the Silver Bandit. I got my CB today. First impressions... 1. Wow, this thing is big. I've never been around a 22.5" WSM, only my stepfather's 18.5. I expect this is the shock that WSM owners felt when the 22.5 was first released. 2. The build quality seems really good...

    Lid holders

I have a tool holder and the slide aside hanging on the rim of my kettle. The lid still closes tightly, I just have to be sure that I set it down on center. No visible smoke leaks, no problem putting out the coals with all vents closed.

    Lid holders

Depending on what you're trying to do with it, I think the slide-aside is better than the Performer lid holder. I have a slide aside on my OTS, and it keeps the lid clear of the grill surface better than the holder on my performer.

    Life is good!

Does anyone know whether hawthorn can be used as smoke wood? My father gives me scraps when he cuts firewood (got a nice stash of apple and cherry chunks a couple of weekends ago), and he ends up cutting a fairly decent quantity of hawthorn. Seems like it would have to work, just because of...

Smokey Joe is an excellent grill

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">having the vents positioned farther down, e.g. level with the charcoal grate, would have provided better intake venting. </div></BLOCKQUOTE> Agreed. The coals need air...

    red performer

Aha, they offered you a new black bowl. That's the part I didn't get, although it's obvious now. Before I started grinding on that beautiful red porcelain, I'd pick up some flat stock and see if I could bend a new bar.

    red performer

Tim: I don't think I quite got your last post. What's the last thing you want to do, cut the legs or get new parts at a great price?

Smokey Joe Silver steady temps probems

Pat, does your 1981 have three separate daisy wheels, like a Bar B Kettle?

    Cajun Bandit (Weber Grill Mod)

I (finally) ordered my Bandit yesterday, and got a notice that it shipped today. Tip for anyone who's been on the fence on one of these: They're in the process of switching over to a stainless access door, so right now you can pick up one of the older models with a painted steel door for $150...

    22.5 & 26.5 housing

I didn't either until I looked at Weber's part list.

    22.5 & 26.5 housing

They have different part numbers, but I bet that has more to do with the curvature of the WSM lid. Next time you go, take a tape measure and see if the diameter of the bezel is the same.

First cook on copper Smokey Joe Gold

Well, I got out the SJG again last night, girlfriend was gone, no need to fire up the performer. Only the second time so far. The menu this time was top sirloin, naan (Indian flat bread), and bananas. With about 1/3 to 1/2 chimney of kingsford competition between the vents, the temperature...

    New Performer!!

Greg- You should have seen me when I went to pick up my performer. It definitely does NOT fit in the trunk or backseat of a Subaru Impreza sedan in the box. People were looking at me funny as I unpacked the box in front of the door to Home Depot... in a rainstorm.

    smokey joe "Tuck-N-Carry"?

I'll admit I was tempted by the wood handle, but I'm not having great luck with the side vents on my gold. Some folks (including you, George) suggested that my copper SJG might be collectible, but I can't get into a grill that doesn't meet a practical need. The current plan is to keep the...

    smokey joe "Tuck-N-Carry"?

Someone just posted a new in box Smokey Joe Tuck-N-Carry on my local (boston) craigslist. The box art looks like a SJG with a wood handle. Not going to get it myself-- need that bottom vent!-- but thought I'd throw it out there if anyone knows anything about them.
