    thermocouple connector sourcing question

I have about 40 of these sitting on my workbench. How much is Newark wanting to charge you for shipping? Is there any reason why we can't use a cheaper connector for thermocouples? A lot of thermocouples come with spade connectors instead of the yellow plug. Hell, you could even use a phono...

thermocouple question (yes I looked through search results)

I second using one with a "medium" sized probe. You want it to react relatively quick, but you don't want it to be so fast that it's twitchy. I'm using ones that have a 3" long probe end that's about 1/4" in diameter and it seems to be perfect for my needs.

    New HM build 4.2.4

I've always just used a probe whenever I wanted ambient temperature. With a 6ft cord, I can get it far enough away from the HeaterMeter and the BBQ to measure accurately. Using an internal thermistor won't be as accurate because the HM board itself (and Raspberry Pi) does generate a bit of heat.

    Auber HM kit

Most people on here either purchase a kit to solder together themselves, or buy one from one of the many people who assemble kits. The Auber kit is a bit outdated and a little bit pricey. Here's the page where you can find people who assemble HeaterMeters...

    Cheap Thermocouples

If you're buying cheapies, make sure to inquire about whether or not the cord has metal braiding around it or not. I ordered a couple from ebay that showed metal braiding in the pictures, but the ones they shipped to me were fabric cords (less heat resistant/less durable). If you check out...

    Cheap Thermocouples

I sell my 800 degree celcius thermocouples (type k connector, ceramic fibre insulated, 6.5ft cord) for $10 US. And maverick grill clips for $1.50 each. There's a wide range of pricing out there for essentially identical products.

    Multiple HM vs. Stoker question

Any big layout of cash is hard to swallow, but with an open source design, at least you aren't locked into buying proprietary hardware. If a blower goes bad on Rock Bar-b-que's Stoker, you have to buy another expensive replacement from them. With HeaterMeter, there are many companies from whom...

    General 3D Printing Thread

I'm waiting on the arrival of an aluminum heatbed so that I have a solid base to clamp my PEI sheet too. I tried it with the standard PCB heatbed, and it just wasn't rigid enough. The middle of the bed ended up being 3/4" higher than the outside edges because the PEI warps badly as it gets hotter.
