It looks like some of the soldering is pretty "globby". It's hard to tell from the pictures, but have you looked closely to make sure there aren't any solder bridges between solder points on the board? Try reflowing the solder on the terminals for the processor. There might be a cold solder...

If you want to control 2 pits, you really need to look at running two separate HeaterMeters. I do this with 2 HMs on the rare occasion that I'm cooking up a storm and have both pits fired up.
