    Being Lazy

    Finally cleaning the WSM after the big weekend Q. She got used twice, so she is a little dirty. Already getting dark here, so I put the racks in the dishwasher. Have it on high temp and pot scrubber mode. Anyone else do this? We'll see what happens!

    Trim Spare Ribs, or Not?

    I personally like mine trimmed and if I ask the butcher nicely, he usually will do all of the trimming except the membrane and the skirt. It does make a nicer presentation and they are easier to eat. Again, could be a mental thing with me!

    Rancher Temps

    It does come up to temp FAST! I have also found that if you use less hot coals with the minion method, it will not shoot straight up to 250. I did tis yesterday and was at the 225 range for my good. Also, you can try using cold water in you water pan. This will absorb more heat for you...

    The parents came through. they picked me up 10 more bags today! Best thing, down to $1.99. HD might as well be giving this stuff away!

    My parents just picked up 10 more bags for me in Owensboro, KY. $1.99 a bag! Woo Hoo, now I have 23! Also, HD keeps this stuff everywhere, I saw it as you first walk in the door at one HD!

    How long can a WSM go....?

    With my clay saucer mod and the mm, I got 21 hours at 250 and after that, the temp dropped. I used a little less than half a bag of Rancer and 20 hot coals to get the fuel going.

    Bryan, I just get the chunk or roll as we call it. I usually cut the roll on half lengthwise and score it. It is good stuff!

    Enemy #1 - wind

    Sorry you had so much trouble. I had some wind yesterday too. It took me from 250 to 225. I opened the vents a little more and the temp shot right back up!

    I love this stuff,,,,especially for the price. Down to my last 230 lbs. I will see if my parents can store an additional 200 for me!

    OMG, BRITU rub is WAY too salty. Cut salt in 1/2. My ribs were still damn good, though!

    21 Hours with Rancher and the WSM

    Started last night at 9:30 smoking 2 butts. Checked temp at 1:00, 3:00, and 5:30. Temp at 250* every time. Took the butts off at 10:30 today and added the spare ribs and smoked for 6 hours. One full ring of fuel lasted 19 hours above 250* and 2 hours later slipped under 200* I love Rancher!

    OK, I bought the ceramic dish

    THE RESULT" : PERFECT! Using the MM, I got 21 hours out of Rancher. I smoked 2 butts overnight and put some spares on this AM. I am a non water convert!Q

    Spare Ribs $1.97 lb

    Picked more up today from the local grocer to 99cents a pound! I will fire the WSM back up tomorrow!
