Original grates - Can they rust?

What Bob said. Once they are cleaned and oiled once in a while they are ready to go for many more years of service.

Weber switching to bolt-on kettle lid handles

The bolt on handle does (as mentioned before) open up the possibilities of more customization. How about a One Touch Gold 22 with a 1950s-60s Metal top handle? Or you can simply add a spare strap style handle if you have one and use that with a wood or plastic handle if you desire. BTW, the wood...

upgrade 1986 26.75 OT kettle to OTG?

Brian over at WKC did this to his 1985 G code 26.75" I think there still may be pictures on this site as well as WKC.

Wanted: Ash Pan for a '62-'68 26-3/4" Kettle

I am in the same boat. I have a '69-'70 PAT PENDING 26 which I am in love with. However, the ash catcher was lost decades ago. These old twist ash pans, especially the ones that are for a 26" are like gold. Hard to come by and rarely does anyone want to give one up by itself. Mine too is wearing...

Whats your opinion on Charcoal Lump or Briquetts

Briquettes: Kingsford Blue (great price and consistant) or Frontier (natural and I actually prefer it over K blue) Lump: Royal Oak or Cowboy.

OTS a better cooker than OTG?

I'm a Daisy wheel guy first. I pefer the temp control and I also love cooking on the old soldiers. The cleaning argument, I either use a Happy Cooker internal ash pan OR I just pick the kettle up and dump the ashes into the bucket I keep handy. Then occasionally my red One Touch comes out of...

    26.75 Color options?

I wish they would again. They haven't offered anything in 26" other than black (red and brown) since 1979. I'd love a Crimson or better yet, a blue 26"er.

A fix for hubcaps that fall off.

That's a pretty neat idea. I also like using the metal push caps like on the old 50s and 60s kettle wheels. They stay on much better than the plastic ones.

George Stephen with Model 1880 14" WSM

Nice photo! Judging from that Smokey Joe's legs and ash pan, and the fact that the 18 and 22 kettles are One Touch, and no Genesis present this must be from 1983-84.
