    Oh yeah, let me explain. By "pretty good," I mean it does an adequate job. Sure not a super job! But it does get the crusty bits and other icky stuff off and leaves the grate clean enough it doesn't attract pests. Also, I brush before and after each cook; not sure I have to, but I do.

    IMO, when in doubt, toss it out. Especially if you're serving it to children, elderly people, or anyone who may have a compromised immune system. Just a thought . . . OK, I just read Kevin's post and he has a point - check it for off odors and cook it real good. I would probably still toss it...

    I've read that it's not a good idea to use red bricks in a kettle because they may explode due to residual moisture content. I may be confused, but if red clay bricks are kiln fired, wouldn't that take care of any moisture in the brick? But in any case, I'm a total noobie to smoking, so could...
