The Adapt-a-Damper - Open Source Project

OK. Here we go. I will do a drawing for the 1st 10 responses to this thread. The winner receives, at no charge or shipping, SN 001 of the Aluma-Damper pictured above ( the red one). The anodizing is great, but the dye job has something to be improved upon. I'll call it a 2nd on finishing, but...

Apparently, my Chinese 50W CO2 laser will engrave anodized aluminum. I guess it vaporizes the dye. Pretty cool!

That adapter fits the MicroDamper version that is on thingiverse. If you bought one from SteveCK, I believe it's a little different.

3d printed BBQ guru smooth adapter is not fitting snug.

I designed an adapter that has a thumbscrew in the side to cinch down on the Guru.

HeaterMeter and Lithium Jump Starter Battery?

I use this. Runs for entire 16 hour cook, no problem. Small and compact. https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00MF70BPU/tvwb-20

    INTRODUCING: the "Roto Damper"

OH! you have the external probe setup. I have no idea then. You could get away with a simple female dupont connector. Not much on amazon. Red is 12V and black is GND. Thinking those connectors should be on the inside? Strange setup. https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B07ZK5F8HP/tvwb-20

Q-Notes, a HeaterMeter companion and Barbecue note taking site

That's cool. Note-taking with results regarding BBQ as I see it? I can be the 1st to post my CNC (and design) files for the Aluma-Damper.

    INTRODUCING: the "Roto Damper"

No connector, just black and red wire punched into the RJ45 jack? Cut the connector off.

    Meater wire free probe intergration.

Great project! My only concern is why?

    Guru UltraQ sucks #!$@

I use a tablet to connect to my HM network if I'm remote. They're cheap these days. I also, if I'm using more than one and don't care about phone connectivity, will use a dedicated WiFi router to lock into.

Yeah, probably need a 15 CFM. I use one on my mini, and get's to temp in 10 minutes, and stays within 1 degree for entire cook. I don't use servo, but use the 15 CFM AA ( servo disconnected) and close down the damper to about 25% when the temp gets to 30 degrees below set.

The Adapt-a-Damper - Open Source Project

So, I've decided to do an Aluma-Damper drawing/giveaway. Over the next few weeks, I'll make a video of just what I'm giving away. I'm doing a burn-in right now for an 18" WSM, and adjusting settings to get it close to the very unit I'll part with. Stay tuned. EDIT: Here's the post for the...

Nice! Gotta love the flat line temps that the HM does for an insulated Gravity Feed. I'm going out next week to buy some square tubing to start building my Double Pan. What are those high temps after you took the meat off?

    Heatermeter Arsenal

Used a 1/2" 2-flute upcut spiral bit. A downcut would have been better to reduce some of the fuzz at the top of the pockets.

    Heatermeter Arsenal

Had some leftover closed cell foam, so I decided to crank up the old CNC Router, and make a fitted case for my arsenal of heatermeters and dampers. One more spot for another Aluma-Damper.

The Adapt-a-Damper - Open Source Project

Just out of curiosity, what would one be willing to pay for an Aluma-Damper? Wanting to know demand/price so I can work out some numbers for fixturing and if it's even worth the time to do so. Also, I may be doing a drawing soon for an Aluma-Damper give-away. I really want to get one into a...
