    INTRODUCING: the "Roto Damper"

http://www.harborfreight.com/propane-torch-91033.html This is what I have used for years to light my Big Green Egg. I've got it hooked up to the propane tank from my old Weber propane grill, and I light the torch with a long bic lighter, hold the end down into the coals for 10 seconds or so...

Newbie advice?...with a Visions Grill Pro C model

I bought one from Amazon that looks just like this probe, except it didn't have the K type jack on it, nor the clip to hold it on the grill. However, I had the exact same problem. The probe fell between the ceramic parts of my green egg, and not thinking, I pulled up on the wire to retrieve it...

    INTRODUCING: the "Roto Damper"

I had the same problem with the 4 pack of servos I ordered from amazon. Sucks, but I hear these things aren't exactly known for quality. Or at least, you should often buy many if you need one, because you'll have to pick the best out of the pack to work with. The first one I grabbed didn't work...

    Whomper Damper

My Green Egg table that I made of treated pine from Home Depot caught on fire this weekend after the crappy Green Egg replacement gasket caught fire and fell onto my table. I walked outside 3 hours after dinner to more smoke than I had during the cook. This design is indeed awesome. I don't have...

    Choked Fire

I recently got my RotoDamper3 all set up, and I'm wondering about choking the fire also. Let's say I'm just doing a low and slow cook at 250 degrees. The way I understand it, the damper opens to whatever percentage the fan is running at. So if I reach my set temp of 250 degrees and the fan goes...

    INTRODUCING: the "Roto Damper"

I just got my RD3 from Ralph yesterday and have been putting it together. It comes as parts that need to be pressed together. Plus you have to add your own fan and servo motor. So he basically does the R&D plus 3d printing for us, and we assemble it ourselves. It's pretty easy to assemble...

Dang, that's tempting, and I don't even need another one.

    wired connection issue

Weird. I ran CAT5 out to my Green Egg and use my Heatermeter via a wired connection vs wifi like most others seem to. I had no issues setting mine up. I plugged it in, booted it, and it grabbed an IP from my DHCP server on my network. I configured my DHCP server to assign the rPi's MAC address...

New HM build, first cook under belt, questions

Hi all. As the subject says, I got my heatermeter 4.2.4 built last week and over the weekend used a sale on pork butt's at Sam's Club as an excuse to test out the operations of this thing. I don't have a case built for it yet, and I built a connection to my green egg bottom vent using a copper...

    4.2 fan not running

Yes that's the problem. I built my new HM setup last week and when finished left it plugged into the USB port of the Pi for power like the instructions said, and then hooked up the fan and wondered why it wouldn't run. I used a multimeter to find a wire with 12v coming off of it, and never did...

Considering a HeaterMeter, but I'm confused about the probes

Fair enough. I have no room to put you down for that. I've got a pile of circuit boards in my basement in case I ever need to de-solder any components off them. I just ordered me 3 new Thermoworks probes. 2 Pro high heat, and 1 needle type. Even though I've got 2 Maverick probes that work, I am...

Considering a HeaterMeter, but I'm confused about the probes

Well I'm new to this world. Previously I just used whatever probe came with my device. I just got my HeaterMeter built and set up last night, and tonight I tested my old Maverick probes with it. 2 out of 5 work, but the thermocouple probe I just got seems quicker to settle and more solid. I was...

New Build - Solder bridges, or by design?

I just finished my build last night and had the same concerns at first, but mine seems to be working fine so I think it is by design. And I hear you about underestimating the cost. What drew me to this project was that I had always wanted a CyberQ controller from bbqguru.com, because I wanted...

Considering a HeaterMeter, but I'm confused about the probes

Part of me wishes I hadn't bought the thermocouple version of the board, because as you say I already have several thermistor probes around. Unfortunately I didn't really know what I was doing when I ordered my HM kit and ended up buying the thermocouple version thinking that since it cost more...

Considering a HeaterMeter, but I'm confused about the probes

Consider this an additional question... If you were to buy a thermocouple with the wrong type plug, couldn't you just cut it off and either feed the bare wires into the connectors, or find some spades that fit in and attach to the wires?

Help with HM and Keg? Dale/Andy

I have never heard of the Kick Ash basket until this thread, but I would love one for my Big Green Egg. I kind of agree with Dale, I'd order one right now if it was more like $30ish, but as it stands I'm fighting back and forth. I'm either going to put it on my birthday wish list for September...

Does Heatermeter work with a Pi B 2?

Thanks Ralph. I read similar in the documentation on the Wiki. I guess my relative lack of knowledge about rPi's just makes it confusing, because even now when i read that I still feel like it says the B 2 is fine. But I got a hold of Bryon, and he's going to sell me a B that I can use. By the...

Does Heatermeter work with a Pi B 2?

crap. Guess I should have selected that in my kit order. Maybe Bryan can still sell me one.

Does Heatermeter work with a Pi B 2?

I've got a Raspberry Pi B 2 that I bought when they first came out, and never really thought of anything great to do with it. Now that I'm building my heatermeter, I was planning to use it, but I can't find anything in the documentation that says it works with it. Can anyone confirm? I figure...

    New simple and little servo

So I only found out about Hetermeter 2 weeks ago and got my kit for Father's day. Haven't even put it together yet, but I've studied the instructions thoroughly in anticipation. I hadn't planned on using a servo, because I didn't even know I could use one until yesterday. Now I'm interested...
