Stokerlog changing pit target when lid opened...

You don't want the temp to be set back up to your previous temp as soon as you put the lid back on. With the lid off, your fire is receiving extra air, and going to overshoot your temp. By delaying the temp being set back to "normal" you are helping minimize the potential for an overshoot of...

    Bad Stoker experience

Christine, Couple of other things to chime in here. Assuming your Stoker is hooked to a WSM, make sure your other two bottom vents are closed completely, and if cooking at 250 or less, top vent only needs to be 25-50% open. Make sure your fan is oriented properly so that the metal flap can...

    First cook with lump. Questions

My 2 cents: I put ABTs on racks that I would normally use for cooling off cookies If the whole thing is wrapped in bacon, they normally come off the rack easily. This also allows you to get in and out of the smoker quickly rather than leaving the lid off while trying to gather the ABTs...

Water Pan & Stoker / Guru

I use the foiled empty pan with crumpled foil. If the temp is coming up too fast for you, I'd suggest running your top vent at less than 100%. When doing a 225-250 cook, I use a propane torch to light a couple pieces of charcoal (lump) closest to the fan. I leave the top vent at 100% until...

Stoker and Network Connetion around blocked Port 80

With my WSM, I run the top vent at about 25% open for cooks up to 250F. On higher temp cooks, I run 50% open. The smaller opening eliminates much of the natural draft and allows the Stoker to have more complete control over the smoker temps. On your port forwarding question, I have a Linux...

    StokerLog Version 5 Preview

Oh, duh! I only have port 22 to play with, so would need to forward 22 to 23 in order to use Stokerlog. Thanks

    StokerLog Version 5 Preview

Sorry, one more question. I don't see an option to specify a non-standard port number for Stokerlog to use? Unfortunately, the only port available to me is 22 (SSH). I currently have that port forwarded to 80 on the Stoker, and I can get to it via Internet Explorer, but my attempts to you...

    StokerLog Version 5 Preview

Can you explain the use of the HTTP field again? I'm getting ready for a cook Thursday night. Stoker will be plugged into work LAN, and I plan on accessing it from my home. I do have a port opened so I can get to the web interface. Will the Stoker respond quickly enough across the internet...

    StokerLog Version 5 Preview

Question on the email logging options. Is there any way to just have it send and email/text to phone for only "alarm" type conditions? Probably going to do my first remote cook on Thursday. Setting the smoker up at work and starting it up to be ready for Friday lunch. Ideally, I'd just leave...

Hey Amir, is it "tomorrow" yet?

    Guru Eyelets

Yes, the Stoker probes fit through the Guru eyelets. I have two Guru eyelets, and two Stoker eyelets.

    TOTALLY CONFUSED (or just stupid!)

John, Congrats on your purchase. I was one of the fortunate ones to win a Stoker in the essay writing contest. I have found the Stoker to be extremely reliable, and with Amir's program, you have a combination that will provide many satisfying sessions with your WSM. The 5 CFM fan is plenty...

    Silver Bullet Smoking Jacket

Very easy to put on/take off. It has a semi-rigid plastic band that you put in the bottom of the jacket and it just slides over the smoker easily. Certainly cuts down on fuel usage on cold days.

    Stoker Log 4.2

Or permanently disable Norton by going to control panel, add/remove programs If you're looking for an antivirus suggestion, I've been very happy with Avast Home edition is free.

    Stoker Log 4.2

I was just curious if there was a way to program that information from a web/application other than the menus on the Stoker itself. I have mine programmed correctly, so really isn't a big deal. I just know that sometimes this is confusing for new owners and thought it would be great to put it...

    Stoker Log 4.2

Amir, Is there an option via the telnet interface to display/change the probe calibration numbers? Can you query the firmware version? Just wondering if some things like this might be nice in a utility menu within your program?

2nd Stoker Cook Issues - Any Ideas

Larry, How are you running your probes into your smoker? Via eyelets, or is it possible they are being pinched by the lid? Amir, I'm not a programmer, and it is past my bedtime, so humor me with this question. When your logger program is communicating with the Stoker, I'm assuming there is...

2nd Stoker Cook Issues - Any Ideas

I certainly think it makes sense to send an email to Rock and see if there is any explanation for how the logic operates (or doesn't?) on determining when to turn the fan back on. Might also be interesting to see if this is something that only happens when the Stoker is being connected via a...

2nd Stoker Cook Issues - Any Ideas

I'll buy the saucer for you if you decide to follow through Seriously though, I've found my Stoker to be very reliable. I do think one of the keys is to keep that top vent down to 25%. Let the fan do the work. In a regular cook, it should be pulsing on a regular basis. I use lump charcoal...
