First gasser rehab - Genesis Jr. - Modified with 3rd burner

For the first cook, I went with a slathered and rubbed London broil. Let it warm up with the front burner on medium and it went to about 275. Turned the front burner up to high and started the cook. After about 20ish minutes, the meat was around 120, so I took it off and turned it up to 11...

Let me mull that over -- perhaps there's a way to reproduce the stickers.

I listed them in increasing order of usage? :)

First gasser rehab - Genesis Jr. - Modified with 3rd burner

With the wider 3000 control panel, a side burner doesn't fit. I already checked. 🥴 For the time being, I put in the original panel. I also redid the top right shelf and put in one of the two surviving full slats from the original.

First gasser rehab - Genesis Jr. - Modified with 3rd burner

If a picture is worth a thousand words, is a video worth a thousand pictures? Does that make a video worth a million words? I hope so, because I just didn't have the energy last night to do a proper summary of yesterday's work . . . The day began with installing the black durawood slats in...

First gasser rehab - Genesis Jr. - Modified with 3rd burner

This was just a dry test run--mainly to test the fabbed-up middle burner. The thermo shot up to 450 very quickly, but then again the probe was directly over bare flame. I'll feel it out tomorrow with the flavorizers and grates in place. I'm torn between spinning a bird and some sort of high...

First gasser rehab - Genesis Jr. - Modified with 3rd burner

Started today by taking the remains of the 3000 to the county scrap metal recycling place. As much as I've enjoyed working on the Junior, I don't think I'm up for creating a BrucePile for possible future projects. I started to work down the punchlist on the Junior, but I had to interrupt to...

First gasser rehab - Genesis Jr. - Modified with 3rd burner

Oops. In all the commotion, I forgot to mention that I swapped the NG manifold from the 3000 onto the 1000 before flipping the 1000. I kept the 1000's 3-burner propane manifold. The end result of this will be a grill that's approximately 75% Junior, 15% 3000 and 10% 1000. Here are the...

First gasser rehab - Genesis Jr. - Modified with 3rd burner

Did something yesterday that I haven't done since the mid-90's -- bought propane. Our house came with an old crusty pedestal grill hooked up to the natural gas line. It worked, so we kept it until the mid-aughts when we got our S-320 natural gasser, which is still going strong despite the...

First gasser rehab - Genesis Jr. - Modified with 3rd burner

More progress over the weekend. Got pretty much everything that needs to be painted prepped for painting on Sunday. Yesterday turned out to be good painting weather, so I got some preliminary coats down on the frame, z bars, firebox and sides. The lower shelf z bars that came with the black...

Black durawood? Special Edition for Target?

This appears to be a mostly-intact version of the one I picked up. If it were closer/cheaper, I'd probably pick it up just for the slats . . . and maybe the hood and . . . https://southjersey.craigslist.org/hsh/d/cherry-hill-weber-grill/7150805711.html

First gasser rehab - Genesis Jr. - Modified with 3rd burner

Crossed the Rubicon yesterday. Firebox is now prepared to accept a third burner. Used a 1 1/8" spade bit for the initial hole, then reshaped with the angle grinder. Not the cleanest, but it will work.

First gasser rehab - Genesis Jr. - Modified with 3rd burner

I did another mockup today with the black durawood that I harvested from a freebie. The swing table arm is the one I fabricated from hard brake line and seems stable enough to support a reasonable amount of weight. The lower shelves could use one or two more slats, but aren't an awful fit...

Black durawood? Special Edition for Target?

I had previously been committed to buying a different grill for $30 on Sunday for the sole purpose of scavenging bits for my Junior project--specifically the swing table/hardware, usable slats and a propane tank. But the seller contacted me on Saturday to say she sold it. grr So I kept up the...

Black durawood? Special Edition for Target?

Here are some more pics. Brake cleaner had no effect on the finish, so I cut a little nick out of the underside, and it looks black all the way through.

    Swing Table Support Arm

My Genesis Junior project was missing the swing table entirely, so I began to ponder ways to McGyver one. I picked up a parts grill with the swing table, so I don't need to finish the McGyvering. But I played around anyway. I had some hard brake line in my garage, so I played around with it...

Black durawood? Special Edition for Target?

Update 6/23: Looks like this might have been a special edition made for Target with black durawood. Appliance Factory Parts lists a part no. (92154) for a black durawood side shelf that fits only the "Target-Genesis 1000 LP." The black makes sense considering Weber did something similar for...
