    NOOB Heater Meter Question

Are you sure you're not setup as a thermistor. This would give a abnormally high reading for your thermocouple.

    Noise issue

John I have chased this noise issue for years. Tried different power supplies, true analog, and different switchers. I have tried with the Pi 3+ the 2.4ghz and 5 ghz wireless bands. Long ethernet cords from outside back into house to connect to my router. Lowest noise I have been able to...

    Heatermeter PID Loop Tuning Help

Here is a configuration I have used with my PrimoJr. One thing i want to make clear is that I use the d-plates when cooking. I have found these help smooth out the control when cooking. Also, I use 2 different thermocouples in different point when using grill. When cooking ribs, I drop...

Problem with fan control, schematic not working

I suspect the 3.3 vdc applied to gate of Q1 is turning on FET and that would explain why you see 0 vdc on gate of Q3. I suspect you should be reading across Q3 source diode drop voltage or or something around a volt dc.

Problem with fan control, schematic not working

Is the impedance between the Arduino the same as it is with the Atmega328. That could cause your issue. Is the diode installed correctly and has you checked it to make sure it is not open. What type of scope probe are you using. Is it ac isolated or direct dc coupled. If circuit is ok, you might...

    First Cook

nice tune. Cannot ask for anything better. The reason I use lump over briquets is just what you found. It last longer for one thing, gives you a better smoke, and it has an even burn temp which helps keep your control more stable. I would switch over to lump for you next cook to see how your...

    First Cook

Here is what my settings are. I use a ceramic cooker, so heat loss is not as big and issue as with the WSM cooker. I would lower the proportional down to around 3 and integral to about.0035. Raise your derivative up to 6. I also would set the fan "%min" to 20 to start. I have found that the...

Why can't this thing just work... (frustrated)

Michel, Before you start reheating solder joints get some of these products. If you have solder blobs, and dull grainy joints, then use this wicking first to remove excess solder and then solder connection again. The wick can pull excess solder through the plated hole and clean the whole...

    First Cook

can you post a picture of your configuration page so we can see what all your settings are? Where did you place your pit probe in the smoker? I try to keep mine from being directly exposed to the coals. You can sometimes get flairs in your coal base that can spike the temp in the grill if your...

TC issues with new HM 4.3

Grant, As you can see this topic was popular and is still unsolved. My next move was to purchase this https://www.adafruit.com/product/1952 and another cable with 10 f/m pins sets. Between the 2, I could make a jumper to separate and test. I was going to separate the Pi and the HM apart as far...

    Alternate Buck converter issue

It should work according to spec on amazon web page. Same quality as the Murata product, probably not, but worth a try with original part lead times are out a year. Hope you bought more than one. It might take a few to get one that regulates at 5vdc with no sag under load. Good luck

Sweet. Good news. You really did dig the hole deep enough.

Why can't this thing just work... (frustrated)

Michel, I hope that solves the issue. I am assuming you have tried a brand new out of package sdcard. I have run into flakey sd cards many times. You think it`s ready to go after the format, but that card still has an issue you might not see till after data has been loaded and the Pi tries to...

Why can't this thing just work... (frustrated)

Michel, If you can try to look under the processor chip socket and look for a solder bridge. I believe the lands, solder pads, are also plated through holes so when soldered the solder should flow through hole as well. Can you provide pictures that show the top side of the board? If you can...

Why can't this thing just work... (frustrated)

Michel, One last thing. I noticed your setup to run in centigrade. Is that a custom script? I did not see in the configuration where you would change that from F to C. If it is a script, remove it and try to boot again. When watching your video, it looks like to me when booting, it gets confused...

Why can't this thing just work... (frustrated)

Michel, That is the ATM 328P cpu chip. That is the long 28 pin brains chip in the chip socket on the main HM board. On solder side of board, HEATERMETER V4.3.4, is written between the pins. Hope this helps

Why can't this thing just work... (frustrated)

Michel, Have you tried removing the PIC and making sure it did not have a bent pin when it was inserted into the socket? Watching it boot, it looks like a problem I had one once when the PIC had a pin that was not firming inserted into the socket. Also do you have a spare PIC to try.

Pit Probe not reaching temps when calibrating

Andrew, My experience with thermocouples is that they do have a lifespan. Most of the thermocouple's wires are wrapped in a fiberglass insulation and then covered with a braided stainless jacket. What happens over time is the smoke and oily moisture penetrates the steel and then the fiberglass...

    POE

From my experience with Raspberry pi, the pi will not work with PoE. But you can go the the link provided, if you have not already been there, and purchase this device and they claim you can do it. https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/poe-hat/ Would be interesting to see if it will work.
